Monthly Craft Fayre
It’s always lovely to meet people who have a passion for their work or hobbies, especially like good friends Sharon and Carol, who got together with 6 other ladies, to help take the fayre to another level and helped them to create this monthly Arts & Crafts Fayre for themselves and many other creative people, to exhibit their own handmade or handcrafted gifts.
The idea is that they wanted to create a unique fayre allowing them to present their handmade or handcrafted items in an environment of like minded people and the location is perfect, Restolake Restaurant in Oroklini, the hub of Cyprus. It’s next to the lake, home to the Flamingos, in lush green surroundings, partly indoors or under cover and the bar and restaurant that sells really good food.
I met Sharon and Carol for a chat to find out more … I asked them why? and they simply answered, “because there was nothing like it in this area”! “The Craft fayre is normally held on the second Sunday of Every Month, but is subject to change occasionally if it clashes with religious or annual events … so follow us to keep in touch !
In the Know
Meeting just two years ago, between them there’s many years experience in Arts & Crafts, Sharon whose art is Mosaics crafted from hand cut wood, started way back in 1983 and Carol, an experienced soap maker who expertly makes bespoke natural and handcrafted soaps since 2012.
So far they expect about 40 to 50 Crafters to be attending the fayre including Wood Crafts, Candles, Cotton Bags, Patchwork, Glass Artists, Leather Apparel, Knitwear, Bijoux Jewellery, Pebble Art, Fashion Designers, Greeting Cards, Wedding Accessories and one of my favs Bottle Art called ‘Snazz that Glass’ with a maximum of two tables per craft, there’s bound to be something for you …
Restolake has been the home of Oroklini Craft Group for the past two years. Here you’ll also find a children’s play area, with Bouncy Castles and things to keep the kids occupied while you do a little bartering. The Restaurant has even launched a brand new Menu especially for the occasion. You can also try a little bird watching from the look out tower, a dream in the winter months as it’s the home of the hundreds of Pink Flamingos who hibernate here for the winter catch of Salt Lake Shrimps …
Every month a local charity will be invited, with the space free of charge, to hold a Raffle, or Tombola in order to raise money for their charity !
Pretty much everything here is unique, so anyone can take part with advanced notice bringing your own tables and shades at only € 10.00 for the day. All you have to do is give them a call and hope your craft is original enough to join in, oh and I’m led to believe most of the crafters will arrange delivery anywhere in Cyprus.
This really is a lovely initiative by local, ex pat and international artists and crafters from all over the world and a lovely way to spend a family day out doing a little shopping and bartering and I hope you’ll go along to give them some support !
Open All Year
Usually Second Sunday Every Month
10 am ’til 2.00 pm
You’ll find them next to the lake, just off Junction 58 of the A3, or off the Larnaca to Dhekalia Road, by the Fire Station towards Oroklini … There’s a car park and toilets with disabled and baby changing facilities, oh and its dog friendly too …
An affair with original fayre, in bazaar style!
