On the main Paphos to Coral Bay Road, right on the forkto Kissonerga, excuse the pun, overlooking Potima Beach, aka Banana Bay, and one of my favourite views in Paphos, is this delightful find; Sonny’s looks good the moment you arrive, and then it just gets better!
Coming outta Shepherds Bush in London, Chris with over 30 years experience, and catering in his blood, following in his fathers footsteps, he finally sealed the deal to buy the old Banana Cabaret Bar in Kissonerga, better known for its sauciness than its sauces 😉
It looks lovely as you arrive, and through the stone pillars, is a spacious restaurant with rustic decor, solid wooden tables and chairs, a log burner at each end for those chilly winter evenings and a delightful terrace running along two sides, covered and etched with crimson flowers, overlooking the bay, just a perfect way to enjoy lunch or a romantic dinner!
Truly International with a traditional English twist, Chris has created a menu from a selection of his favourites, boasting some recipes that have been passed down from his granny. So, let’s start with the steaks, tender Rib Eye and fantastic Black Angus fillet, cooked perfectly to your taste and served with a selection of sauces to make those taste buds explode.
Choose Fish & Chips or one of their famous Platters for two or more. Everything freshly cooked using very local produce. The home made pies are awesome, especially the Chicken, Gammon and Leek, a compliment to the best potatoes in the world. The Pork fillet in mushroom and garlic sauce is exemplary and hard to resist.
Well pretty much everything on the menu, but my fav is the pies. Chris is a master at making Suet, one of granny’s recipes, so if you fancy a perfectly steamed pie look no further, really!!!
Banana Bay Prawns
This has to be my absolute fav, and unique, a delicious creation of grilled prawns, wrapped in Banana Leaves and slow cooked until it’ll just melt in your mouth, a must just once!
There’s always something different every day, with daily specials and seasonal favourites. Just check on the way in or on the blackboards.
Naturally being on the coast you’ll find an awesome selection of seafood, but Sonny prefers to get seafood orders the day before to be absolutely sure its as fresh as today’s catch, so give him a call today and choose the Seafood Platter for tomorrow … OMG !!!
Hmm, those were the old days, lol, now you’ll find the naughtiness in the awesome desserts, all home made, the Lemon Cheesecake, tingling with citrus, the Bailey’s Creme Brulee so moorish, Treacle Sponge and custard mmm! and maybe just a small slice of their world famous Chocolate Cake with a delicious Pizarro Coffee and complementary aperitif.
