Every town needs a good ‘Off License’, but these days, especially in Cyprus, a Walk-in Cava is a must! and fortunately, AlcoHall has both … and you know they’ll be open from 9 am ’til late every day, with Lorraine from the Green Isle, offering a warm Irish smile to welcome you … oh, btw that’s 365 days a year, except maybe Christmas Day, when in the morning they’ll make sure they’ll be there so you can just top-up whatever you got through on Christmas eve.
It’s not warehouse style here, so you’ll easily find everything you’d expect from a good Off License. In fact, as part of the Karas group of companies, it’s the area’s largest selection of discounted wines, beers and spirits, smokes and nibbles and even a little gift or souvenir … Lorraine has been in Cyprus 20 years, moving from the far west coast of Europe too far East Coast of Europe, wow! and she joined AlcoHall Cava 9 years ago, and btw, she is very ‘in the know’ about her booze, ha! well, she is Irish 😉 oh, and Lorraine is always ready to help if you need it!
Walk in Cava
The purpose built, ‘walk-in’ Cava is fully air-conditioned to a constant 21°C … Inside, a first class selection of over 100 different wines from all over the world, including; New Zealand, Argentina, Spain, France, Chile, Australia, Italy, South Africa, America, and of course a comprehensive selection from Greece and Cyprus, that btw, since joining the EU are producing some of the finest wines in the world. One of my favourites has to be the Whispering Angel Rosé or the Miraval, and the Cotes De Provence Rose chilled … all absolutely delicious!
Cyprus in fact, also produces ‘Commandaria’, the oldest table wine in the world and with a few carefully selected brand names to choose from including the very popular St. Johns Commandaria, but I urge you to try the ETKO Commandaria … it’s nectar to taste!
Everything from Don Perignon or Moet to Veuve Clicquot Brut & Rose, Deutz Champagne, and Taittinger Champagnes, all for that very special occasion …
So, let’s get into the spirit of this place, starting with my fav tipple …
Whiskeys & Malts
Specialising in an extensive collection of Whiskies and Single Malts and a few labels for that very special occasion, from under a tenner to way over a ton … blends like, Dalmore 21 Years, Johnny Walker Red, Black, Gold, Platinum, XR, Blue, and Swing, or maybe a Bottle of Lagavulin 16 Year Old, or Lagavulin Double Matured Scotch Whiskey, or the very special Glenmorangie Port Casks and Sherry Casks and many more … tbh I’m happy with a Jack Daniels, Bells, Famous Grouse or Cutty Sark at their crazy low prices.
In the Brandy display you’ll find V.S.O.P, my fav, Metaxa all the way up to the Private Reserve, Remy Martin, Five Kings, Martell VS Cognac, Triomphe, Hine Vintage and Three Barrels, to mention but a few …
For that extra little smooth taste, go for something like Grey Goose or Belvedere, Beluga, Ciroc, Ketel One, Van Gogh and of course Roberto Cavali, Smirnoff or Absolut in many flavours …
Everything you’ll need to mix any cocktail, stocking all the top named Rums. I just love the, Ron Zacapa XO, Dark Rum, Gin, Tequila, Ouzo, and Zivania … Speciality Blends and Mixes, Liqueurs, Party Ice, Charcoal for the BBQ, and much, much, more.
I love the displays, especially my fav tipple, The Jack Daniels Pyramid ! … it’s all neatly laid out and with plenty of soft drinks, mixers, snacks and munchies that are a must for any party, and a few souvenirs and gifts, just in case you want to take a little prezzie with you.
Oh, often as not it’s cheaper to buy here than it is at the airport and if you’re out of cash, don’t worry there’s an ATM outside! and if the accounts empty, they are also agents for UniStream Money Transfer … so there’s no excuse lol
