Passion for Nature
I first met Xenakis when he opened the Camel Park in 1998, but never really had a chance to talk to him. He’s one of those guys who has a passion for his work. Saying ”he opened the park because he loves, animals and nature” and as we chatted he reminisced how excited he was when he saw Cyprus Camels in his village when he was growing up and wanted to give all kids the chance to get up close, feed them and even ride the Camels …
The Cyprus Camel was everywhere many years ago and somehow just fizzled out, but for the past 21 Years, Xenakis and his family have created this unique and totally wonderful haven for now 70 camels and a few other furry and fluffy and feathery friends like Ostriches, Goats, Deer, Ponies, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Llamas, Turtles, Fish, lots of Birds oh, and the resident Peacock, making this an amazing adventure and an absolutely lovely, different day out for all the family.
What I really like about The Camel Park is it’s diversity, as there’s always something new to see every time you go. With such a lot of animals, there’s often a few babies around including iccle Camels, ranging from as little as 2 weeks old … they are just delightful! You can choose to stroll around at your leisure or there’s guides who offer information in several languages … check out their videos here …
So much to do
As you walk in you’ll realise its been designed for all the family, with several kids’ play areas, things like the Swings, Bumper Cars, and Noah’s Ark, a 5D Cinema and even a gorgeous Swimming Pool and Kiddies Pool surrounded by lush lawns and mature trees giving you that oasis feeling and a lovely opportunity to chill, and enjoy lunch or dinner.
In their Cafe and Restaurant there’s a great selection of spectacular Cypriot dishes, Salads, Pizzas, Wraps, Burgers, Grills, Sea Food, or just an Ice Cream or Teas, Coffees and delicious home made Desserts and Cakes … oh and an excellent Children’s Menu !
The entrance fee has always been very reasonable and allows you to use all the facilities including the pool in the summer, with the option to pay a little extra to buy food bags to feed the Camels or a ticket for the Safari Ride, an experience you’ll never forget …
Xenakis and the awesome crew also welcome birthday parties and special events, again something a little different for your kids, with full catering facilities available.
All in all this is a fantastic day out with the kids that can cost you as little as the entrance fee … Oh, and don’t forget your camera, a few of the Camels love a selfie 😉
