Haris Bar & Tavern. Pegia, Paphos, Established 1982

Haris Bar Tavern …
One of my favourite finds this year … Haris Bar & Tavern in the heart of Pegia … established in 1982 by Haris of course, whose dream was to provide the local area with delicious home made Cypriot and international cuisine in a comfortable and intimate setting, son Savvas is following in his dad’s footsteps!

Family Size Pool
Haris Bar looks the part as you arrive, there’s off road parking, a cool low modern building, even cooler signage, looks clean and pristine, its comfortable with spacious inside and outside seating on the covered beer gardens style patios and out back, a lawn surrounded by sun terraces with a full size family swimming pool in the middle for their clients’ kids to play in free … oh and Stuart, the British breakfast chef in the mornings and Costas creating a really good Mediterranean menu by night !

Breakfast & Brunch
By day Haris is a friendly place, always a warm welcome, the pool a fav with local mums and the kids.  It gets busy from breakfast through brunch, with arguably the best breakfasts in town.  Choose a good old English breakfast, add some Black Pudding to spruce it up, there must be a bit of northern in him lol … or might as well go across the border with a true Scottish breakfast … or maybe even over the pond and go American style with Pancakes and Maple Syrup, on the side !!!

Lunch Time
The menu is well cool, 15 choices all under a tenner, from Ham, Egg n Chips to Chicken Balti n Chips, or Cod & Chips to Beef & Ale Pie with Mash, or Chips ha !… mmm !

Entertainment
Now by night this place gets lively, with regular entertainment and live music, presenting every Monday night the awesome voice of local favourite Drew Chapman and on Saturday nights the pure musical talent of guitarist Kyp … with more on bank holidays and other nights too.

Live Sports
There’s 2 big screens for all the live BT Sports & Sky Sports, a cool Pool Room with two tidy 8 Ball Pool tables and a menu to die for, which is why its so popular with the locals, regular visitors and tourist passing through … much of the success goes down to the chefs, awesome crew and of course the traditional Cypriot hospitality of owner Savvas!

Anti Pasti
For starters, when you see a sign that says ”We would like to take you to a journey of new senses of life of flavours such as Antipasti, Tapas”, you know you’re onto something … It goes on to say ”Our Philosophy has it’s foundation to the respect to the raw material, in life in nature” so you sort of know your gonna get quality … and that’s exactly what you get !

Evening Menu
The newly launched menu is now on their facebook page … the evening selection includes natural Pastas, aka Nitrini, amazingly tender Fillet Steaks in tantalising sauces, fall off the bone Lamb Shanks, cosy side dishes, crispy Salads, but the Pork Medallions is my fav, mmm ! Then there’s Sea Food dishes, fresh Fish, 3 different Platters, Cheese, Meat or Seafood … They also do a traditional British Sunday Roast, one two or three courses, occasional BBQ’s, set menus, buffets and its a fav for birthday parties or any excuse to party !!!

Home made
Just a few desserts but all home made and who needs anything else, Lava Cake served with Ice cream and Banana Savajon or Pana Cotta or Creme Brulee or home made Ice Cream … and naturally they serve seasonal fruits and a variety of temptations, that change daily, like nature and running water !

Behind the bar
There’s everyone’s favourite tipple of course, not to mention draught Guinness, a selection of Ciders, John Smiths, but they’re also Micro Brewery friendly with Chimnoy Belgian Beers, plus a cool selection of international Wines and Bubbles and naughty Cocktails too …
