Surprise!!!
I just love it when I find something by accident, especially when it’s this special … Opposite Liquid Cafe, so I’m normally looking that way, is this fabulous discovery … It’s a cafe snack bar with a unique twist … there’s a few tables on the entrance, hiding them, two big beer barrels sporting huge white letters, Wine & Beer … Quite Apt!
Smile with Joy
It was the name that first caught my attention, Step ‘n’ Joy … so I had to ask why?, Arturas said “I want people to step in and walk out with a bottle of something special and a big smile” … naturally, I had to find out more …
Hot or Cold
To accompany our interview I decided to go for a Cappuccino, which was delicious … Their choice of coffee, Lucaffe, Mr. Excusive 100% Arabica from Italy, quite rare in Cyprus. You could taste more than one flavour, I was impressed … Made fresh to enjoy here, takeaway or delivery via Foody, Wolt & Bolt
Ice Cold!
On the left; 4 fridges full of all your favourite drinks and more than a few you won’t find everywhere … and one more fridge attached to the bar …
Curiosity
I thought I’d take a look … in the first fridge, on the top shelf Bacchus beer, Magners Cider, Paulaner Weissbier and Erdinger … Then I noticed one of my favourite beers, Cyprus Grape Ale made by the brilliant local brewery Octopus Craft Beer by Octo Microbrewery, in Sotira, which seriously tastes like a fine table wine and is a must try …
Party Time
Opening the next fridge, a little unexpected, on the top shelf, a cool selection of Proseccos, by Cantine Mashio Extra Dry, Corte Molino, and Freixenet then down a shelf another twist more craft beers, including the fabulous Lava, Ice Craft and Delphi Pils …
Celebrations
Then it got better, the Bubbles, Moet & Chandon, Freixenet Mia, two by Astoria including one of my favourite Rose, I urge you to try, and a couple more … below, some more beers some on special offer.
Shots
You can’t have a party without some shots … Arturas has a fabulous selection of Tequila, the Sierra Range a best seller, so to the Olmeca Silver and the Jose Cuervo Especial … Don’t forget the lemon and salt 😉
Keeping it Greek
The next fridge was a fabulous selection of Wines from Greece, Italy and Cyprus, we discussed his ideas for the future, concentrating more on local wines with a hint from Greece and Italy. Then yet even more craft beers. I asked Arturas to tell me more about his knowledge of the beers he’s chosen. He said; “I did a lot of research and studying, on the internet, looking for wines and beers that had top reviews, a minimum of 3.7 stars out of 5 Rating but mostly in the 3.8 to 4.3 out of 5, then I tried them and if they were good enough we accepted them”.
It Gets Better
To the right, a cava of wines, and Speciality Spirits, but not the usual find, these have been carefully selected by proud owner Arturas. I just had to ask him more … Born in Lithuania, before coming to Cyprus he spent 28 years in Finland, first studying, Economics at University … going on to work for ‘Kesko’ Finland’s fourth largest company as a Transportation manager in the DIY Hardware department.
Experience
Arturas continued; “I understand about beers and wines, and I have carefully selected some very good wines with top reviews, several that are not too pricey. I’ve also selected my favourite wines, from Gaia Wines from Santorini, Tziakkas Winery up in the Troodos Mountains, Nelion in Paphos, Zambartas, Ktyma Perolemo, Vlassides Winery and one of my favourites Fikardos Winery from Paphos, a few are a little more pricey, that offer more than one flavour with each sip.
Specials
Arturas has a few really special gifts, like Danzka Current Vodka, 7 Star Metaxa, omg soooo smooth … Amuse Rose, Romance by Rerne, and the Pale Rose by Sagha Lichine, to mention but a few …
Keep it Local
Naturally, they also stock everyone’s favourites like Carlesberg, Keo, Leon, Guinness, John Smiths, Erdinger, my fav, Stella Artois, and a few ciders including Magners and Koppenberg and that Hoppy Larger from Zante … The beers are also selected for their quality, many with that little kick and an aftertaste that makes you want to take another swig”.
Snacks
Arturas also made me a toasty to go with my coffee. At the time of writing, there’s just three on the menu, I went for the mix with 3 sauces, just delicious … check out the Meal Combos with either, coffee, wine or beer. And Arturas said; “there much more on its way for munchies” …
