Happy New Year !!!
It’s January, my favourite month … well, it’s winter and I really do love this time of the year, for many reasons … Mostly it’s fresh, it’s green and the orages are ready … It’s quiet’ish, bearing in mind that, almost half of Cyprus’ economy is based on tourism. So, no tourists, means no fifty percent? Means quiet! Strange? considering We’ve got the best weather in Europe, I was sunbathing at breakfast on NYE …
You never know, The government, the CTO, and all that other red tape, ecological baloney, might finally discover that golf courses breed winter tourism, along with more sports facilities and training grounds and theatres and leisure complexes and spa’s and … well, you get my drift … One day we’ll improve year round facilities and activities, I know it’s on its way … All you have to do is believe, oh and rely on private enterprise 😉
Winter also gives all us seasonal workaholics the chance to chill a bit, light a few barbies on lovely fresh sunny days, or gather round an open fire on chilly nights, and catch up with the years events … god it’s cold this year, I had to put the duvet on before December, unheard of! Now I do love the peace and quiet, on those fresh sunny coastal walks, with the off sea breezes and spray, they’re nothing but invigorating … oh, and if you think it was party time in the summer? Get a’load of winter in Cyprus!
There’s enough restaurants, bars and clubs staying open to provide traditional Cypriot cuisine and just about every other cuisine you can think of … bars and stylie cafes with lovely open fires and those tall gas heaters, many providing live entertainment and the night clubs, swinging towards the Cypriot market, a few more seasonal workers that decided to stay, and boy do they know how to party …
It’s also skiing season, with snow hitting The Troodos Mountains as early as the end of November … Of course in Cyprus, you can ski in the mountains in the morning and swim in the med an hour later … It’s a totally different Cyprus up there, and at this time of the year it really comes into its element … Ski and Board Equipment can be hired if you’re into spontaneity … and some of the accommodation is a dream. … Total tranquillity comes to mind!
It’s shopping season, culminating with the February sales, which are starting earlier every year, won’t be long before they start on Boxing Day … Check out London Clothing Company, who have shops all over Cyprus …
Keep an eye open for things like the Motorcross season dapping its way around Cyprus and the Jet Ski Championships, when pretty much all the local watersports crews fight it out against each other … They’re great days out! might see you down there? …
Our property, accommodation and Lean on Me section is growing by the month and the phones don’t stop ringing from readers wanting to know more … We’ve started answering the phone; ‘Talking Pages’ lol … I hate to think how many people I’ve persuaded to move to this wonderful rock … Hope you find what you want! … if not, phone me !
