Luxury
I was invited by Christos and Svetlana of C&S Mistea Trading in Limassol for a chat and a cuppa and at that time, little did i know how much I would learn about tea, tbh my world was about to change … Mistea are importers and distributors of Newby Teas of London … Luxury Tea is now available in Cyprus …
History
Christos and Svetlana met in 1996, moved to Saudi Arabia and then Dubai, where Christos worked for a construction company. Whilst shopping in a supermarket that had to provide a massive variety of products for the many nationalities that live in Dubai Svetlana came across Newby Teas of London. What first attracted her attention was the unique packaging, which btw is a story unto itself …
Irresistible
Then one day, Svetlana couldn’t find her favourite tea, and shortly after, purely by coincidence, she found Newby Teas’ offices in the same Building as Christos’ construction company, which is when and how her story began. Her infatuation was irresistible and so together they launched Mistea Trading to become importers and distributors of this premium collection of teas … which btw are the world’s most awarded luxury tea brand.
Mission
Newby Tea was formed in London in 2000 by Indian born Nirmal Sethia, who left home at the age 14 to become a tea taster and by the age 16 he had become a tea trader, later opening his first Tea Garden, to grow his own premium teas … his mission is to re-introduce quality tea and in turn revive the worlds love for it … after all we’ve been drinking tea for 5000 years and currently consume over 3 billion cups of tea a day worldwide.
Tea Caddies
I have to say I just love the design given to all their packaging, including their Tea Caddies … if nine tenths of the sale is presentation then they are tops in my book … It must be said that their collaboration with iconic British designer Matthew Williamson was a first of its kind. Using designs based on the priceless collection of tea antiques and artifacts, some dating back to the sixth century, gathered over the years by Nirmal Setha in memory of his wife Chitra. It was her that had influenced him into the extensive world of luxury tea … the results are just immaculate, so much so that many peoples’ first time introduction to Newby Tea is as an unusual gift from a friend.
Variety
Based in London Newby Teas are imported from many different countries including, India, China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Nepal to mention but a few … the variety is endless and unique in many ways … Green Teas, Black Teas, Fruit, Herbal, Oolong Tea, White Tea, and Caffeine Free. I must say I was very impressed, and I’ve tasted several of their blends already … I just loved the Butterfly Pea Flowers that when brewed was Blue, until Svetlana added a few drops of lemon and turned it purple … brilliant!
Flowering Teas
The most elaborate awakening was the Flowering Teas, aka Craft Teas as they are handmade by skilled artisans … These are longer leaves of tippy green teas and their flowers, that when steeped in hot water they unfurl into a stunning floral display. These are perfect for their glass teapots and ideal for their specially designed tea glasses …
