World of Wine
Every town needs a good ‘Cava’, but these days, and especially in Cyprus, a Walk-In Cava is a must! Fortunately, at ‘Wine and More Boutique’ you’ll find both and conveniently you know they’ll be open from 9 am ’til late, every day. With ‘Lorraine’ from the Green Isle, offering a warm Irish smile to welcome you 364 days a year, because they’re closed on Christmas Day, so make sure you top-up whatever you’ll need by Christmas eve … and trust me; this lady really knows her wine!
Just for you
Following their massive recent refurbishment, the new fully licenced Wine Boutique is looking really cool and still awaiting a few final touches. Airconditioned to a constant 21°C, the old ‘AlcoHall Cava’ has matured nicely into ‘Wine and More Boutique’ because the owners noticed that’s what many of their clients were looking for!
These masters of hospitality, ‘the Karas family’ bonded a sort of partnership with the brilliant ‘French Depot‘ of Limassol and now they get most of their wines and some speciality drinks and spirits from them. They specialise in French wines from Lore Valley, Bourgogne, Bordeaux and unusually The Alsace in the South West Region of France, to mention but a few, and on that note, I have to say “this cava and delicatessen has moved up into a different league”.
It’s ‘not’ warehouse-style in here, so you’ll easily find everything you’d expect from a quality Cava. In fact, as part of the Karas group of companies, it’s the area’s largest selection of Champagne, Fine Wines, Bio Wines, Vegan and Non-Alcoholic Wines, plus of course beers, including lots of craft beers, ciders, spirits and speciality drinks.
Complementing your favourite drinks with a lovely selection of Cheeses and Cured Meats, finger food, pasta, virgin olive oil, nibbles, snacks, sweets, chocolate you have to break with a hammer, and even a little prezzie, gift or souvenir … Lorraine can also sort you out your smokes by order.
The purpose-built, ‘Walk-in’ Cava is fully air-conditioned to a constant 18°C … Inside, a first-class selection of over 300 different wines from all over the world for all budgets starting from €5 to €390 a bottle. Specialising in wines from France, Italy, and Spain, the delicious Hans Greyl and Silini from Marlborough, New Zealand, and a selection from Portugal. Unusually you’ll also find the gorgeous Yellow Tail and more from Australia, Austria, Chile, the tantalising Catena Malbec from Mendosa, Argentina, South Africa, Lebanon, and Syria and of course a comprehensive selection from Greece and Cyprus.
I love a good red and these are very high on my list; Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte 2014 Grand Cru Classe from Bordeaux, France and Chateau L’Hospitalet Grand Vin 2018 Le Clape AOP, from the Languedoc region. You must try the Benjamin de la tour 2016 by Medoc AOC, Bordeaux Region, France or high on the list the Chateau Montrose 2017 Grand Cru Saint Estephe AOC, or the Chateau Lafon-Rochet 2017 Saint Estephe Grand Cru Classe AOC, and finally, Chateau de Valois 2011 Pomerol AOC
There’s so many labels, from so many countries, so I’ll just mention a few of the best-selling whites. Starting with the excellent Christian Moreau Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru AOC 2018 and Domaine Christian Moreau Chablis Grand Cru or the Valmur Domaine de la Rossignole, from Sancerre. On another level; do try the Alisia Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie Doc, Astoria Suade Sauvignon Blanc and last but not least the delicious Cote des Roses Sauvignon Blanc by Gerard Bertrand or the Lighea Zibibbo.
Lorraine told me “we are now stocking ‘Clos Du Temple 2020’ voted the best ‘Rose’ in the world or the Cotes De Provence Rose chilled” omg! absolutely delicious! Our Rose lovers can also find Sicilian DOC from Sicily Italy and The Berne Inspiration, Berne Romance and Chateau Sainte Marguerite Rose Cuvee Symphonie Cru Classe which is just out of this world and also available in Magnum Bottles of 1.5 litres and 3-litre Bottles … Mmm!
Cyprus in fact, also produces ‘Commandaria’, the oldest table wine in the world and with a few carefully selected brand names to choose from including the very popular St. Johns Commandaria, but I urge you to try the Ηώ Late Harvest Collection from Ekfraseis Winery, Limassol, with notes of Apricot, honey, orange, and flavours of tempting peach and bergamot marmalade filled with spices, perfect when served with desserts. The aftertaste is unforgettable!
Just in case you didn’t know; since joining the EU, this year’s wines taste just like last year’s, and so Cyprus is now producing some of the finest award-winning wines in the world, ask them to recommend a label or two.
If you like your bubbles, they’ve increased their selection of champagnes, there’s everything from Don Perignon or Moet to the exclusive Drappier Carte d’Or Brut, Drappier Brut Nature Champagne, Drappier Grande Sendree … Plus one of my faves Besserat De Bellefon Bleu and the Besserat De Bellefon Rose Champagne and finally Laurent Perrier Brut Cuvee Rose … all ready for that very special occasion and all very ready to pop!!!
So, let’s get into the spirit of this place, starting with my fav tipple …
Whiskeys & Malts
Specialising in an extensive collection of Whiskies and Single Malts and a few labels for that very special occasion, from under a tenner to way over a hundred … blends like; Johnny Walker Red, Black, Double Black, Green, Gold, and my fav the Blue Lable. Maybe a Bottle of Macallan Double or Triple Cask, or the Oban Little Bay Whiskey, or maybe the Oban Distillers Edition 2015, plus the Oban 14 Years Whiskey. More exclusively, something you won’t find everywhere is the impeccable Japanese Whiskies Hibiki, Tottori and Fujimi, or the very special Glenmorangie Port Casks and Sherry Casks and many more. To be honest, I’m happy with a Jack Daniels, Bells, Famous Grouse, Jameson, Bush Mills and Black Bush at their crazy low prices.
In the Brandy display, you’ll find V.S.O.P, Metaxa 5 Star, and Metaxa 7 Star, all the way up to my fav the Private Reserve, plus Five Kings, Martell VS Cognac, Frapin Cognac, Courvoisier XO, Three Barrels, and Dupont Calvados that has a whole apple in the bottle, to mention but a few. Naturally, you’ll also find, the essential at Christmas; Remy Martin, so smooooth!
They stock all the classics, but for that extra silky taste, go for something like Grey Goose or Belvedere, Beluga, Ciroc Pink Grapefruit and Ciroc Mango and Ciroc Vanilla, Ketel One, the Moulin French Vodka and of course Roberto Cavalli, Smirnoff or Absolut in many flavours. One of my recent favourites is the Stoli Caramel just delicious on ice with a splash of lemonade or my latest discoveries, the original Sausage Tree Vodka from Ireland or the Chase Oak Smoked, designed to make the ultimate Bloody Mary, it’s soft and peppery with a delicate smoky finish.
Rum, Gin & Parties
Stocking all the top named Gins and Rums. I just love the Ron Zacapa XO, Dark Rum, Gordons Pink Gin, Hendricks, and one of my faves Whitley Neill, and you must try the Japanese Etsu and Roku Gins, or the unusual Canaima Gin from the French Amazon region and grab a bottle of the new Black Smokers Gin from Troodos, Cyprus … There’s also a few different Tequilas, Ouzo, and the Cypriot essential shot, Zivania … Everything you’ll need to mix any cocktail, plus Speciality Blends and Mixers, Liqueurs, Party Ice, Charcoal for the BBQ, and much, much, more! … btw, I love their ‘displays’ in here!
In the Know
Lorraine, from the Green Isle, moved to Cyprus 23 years ago, from the far west coast of Europe to the far East Coast of Europe, wow! and she joined the Cava 11 years ago, and btw, Lorraine is very ‘in the know’ about her booze, ha! well, she is Irish 😉 … oh, and naturally, Lorraine is always ready to help if you need it!
The boutique is all neatly laid out and with plenty of soft drinks, mixers, snacks and munchies, all a must for any party, and they have a few souvenirs and gifts, just in case you want to take a little something with you. Of course, any good wine deserves a little antipasti, so just through the door, you’ll find a ‘Delicatessen’ with an extensive selection of fine Cheeses, Cured Meats, Pasta and other nibbles.
They also now stock lots of decanters, wine, gin and tumbler glasses, bottle openers, cocktail shakers, ice buckets and just about everything you’ll need for a romantic night in or a big party!
Believe it or not, there’s always Barrels filled with special offers and sale prices so it’s often cheaper to buy here, than at the airport and if you’re out of cash, don’t worry there’s an ATM outside! … so there’s no excuse 😉 … and you can even top up your phone credit here!
With home delivery, all part of the service, Wine and More Boutique is happy to announce that they have joined Wolt Cyprus, so click on the link and they’ll pick up everything you need and deliver it straight to your home.
