Mr. Cod Fish and Chips and Seaside Snacks, Protaras,, Established 1993

3 Decades
I’ve known Pete since before we both moved to Cyprus, in the same year, 1993.  Coming out of the Bristol area, Pete grew up with my god mother’s family, who owned a Fish and Chip shop in Bristol.  In fact, our design studio created his first corporate ID, the famous Mr. Cod with his top hat, molicle, stick and tail …

Mr. Cod
Naturally I was delighted that he’d opened the first Fish and Chip shop in our area, with a proper fish frying range, the only way to cook cod and hand cut chips perfectly … As always; I asked Pete why he called it Mr. Cod and he said “I wanted a name that was straight to the point” … I think its a cool name lol …

North Atlantic
Pete told me he imports the best Cod from the North Atlantic, cuts it himself into 340 gsm portions, dipped into his mums secret recipe home made batter, which he said “I cant tell you the secret coz I’d have to kill you” hmm, and then fries it fresh to order using the finest vegetable palm oil, he says; “because I think it gives my cod the best flavour” …

Sea Food
Pete also sometimes has a selection of Plaice in stock if you prefer and serves a variety of seafood snacks including … Kalamari Rings, Cod Roe, Fish Fingers, Fish Cakes and Wholetail Scampi … You really must try his Fish Platter, fast becoming a favourite!  It’s small cod, 4 kalamari rings, and 4 scampi … brilliant at only €13 ..

Menu
Also on the menu is a selection of other cafe style snacks, like, everyone’s favourite Pukka Pies, Steak and Kidney, Chicken & Mushroom, Beef & Onion, Vegetarian and even Cornish Pasties, from Cornwall of course … oh, and traditional English Pork Sausages, and Saveloys.

Chicken
Naturally you’ll also find Spit Roast Chicken, served as a Half a chicken with chips and salad and of course Chicken Nuggets for the kids …

Spare Ribs
Pete also serves Home Made Spare Ribs marinated in his own perfected BBQ Sauce recipe and cooks them slowly in the oven for 2 hours so the meat just falls off the bone … You know when they’re good coz they leave you licking your fingers as well as your lips …

Mixing it Up
The Burgers are cooked on the hotplate grill and if you fancy a little bit of spice, do try their speciality curry, another one of mums recipes … They’ll even make you a freshly cut Village or Tuna salad …

On the Side
You’ll find lots of side orders including of course Mushy Peas, Curry Sauce, Gravy, Baked Beans, Garlic Mushrooms, and Spring Rolls to mention but a few.

Desserts
You really must try a slice of Pete’s Homemade Apple Pie … The Tea is PG Tips, only the best with a slice, and there’s Beers, Cyprus wines and Spirits if you prefer … much as I normally have a nice mixed fruit Smoothie after my meal.

Kids Menu
If you want a smaller piece of Cod for the kids or your yia yia, Pete will always sort it out for you … other kids nibbles include Sausages, Chicken Nuggets and Fish Fingers or Scampi

Special Offers
You can dine outside, inside and on the covered garden terrace.  Pete said “he’ll offer all our readers a 10% Discount for Take Away and Dine In meals … but if you Dine In you can opt for a complementary bottle of House Wine instead with every two large cod and chips … Sounds good to me … Just tell him Tony said 😉
