Unforgettable
I was recently invited by Captain Panayiotis to embark on what turned out to be an unforgettable journey on the St. Georgios Boat Cruise in Protaras offering a breath taking canvas of turquoise waters, idyllic bays, and golden sands. Amidst this scenic beauty, one experience stands out as a must-do for visitors seeking a blend of relaxation and adventure a chance to swim with the sea turtles at Green Bay which I will never forget!
Voyage of Discovery
The St. Georgios Boat Cruise is more than just a leisurely trip on the shimmering Mediterranean waters; it’s a journey of discovery that immerses travellers in the natural beauty and rich history of the region. As you step aboard the traditionally designed vessel, you’re greeted with warm Cypriot hospitality and a promise of memorable moments ahead … naturally, the bar is open, Lee, from Edgeware the boat’s general dogsbody, is your host and barman serving all your favourite drinks and exotic cocktails … you must try their ‘Sex on the Boat’ or the ‘Captains Cock-Tale’
Catch some Rays
She’s a beautiful Italian-made yacht, 60-foot with 3 decks, once belonging to an ex-president of Cyprus. Up on the top deck, you can put your towels down to catch some rays, on the main deck the restaurant bar and lounge offer a little shade … I love the rails at the front that allow you to sit with your legs dangling over the boat as you glide along the med … Naturally, there’s loos and showers downstairs.
Ghost Town
Sailing from Protaras Jetty at 10.30 am, with a maximum of 60 people, while the sun continues to rise to the east, highlighting the rugged coastline, hidden coves, and pristine beaches that define the charm of Protaras. The first destination is the Ghost City of Famagusta. As you get, as close as you can to the ghost town, your host tells you the history of Famagusta, once the Monoco of the Mediterranean, sadly commemorating 50 years of Turkish occupancy in 2024.
Swim Stop
As the boat turns around heading West towards Blue Lagoon at Cape Greko for your first swim stop you’ll glide past Konnos Bay and get up close to the sea caves. The charcoals are already lit on the strategically mounted BBQ at the rear of the boat, to cook your BBQ Chicken Lunch. You’ll be treated to stunning views of rugged cliffs, while the sea breeze caresses your skin as you bask in the glorious sunshine, creating an idyllic atmosphere that is both soothing and invigorating.
Lunch Time
Your freshly cooked BBQ Lunch is served just after we arrive at Blue Lagoon for your first swim stop, BBQ Chicken, hand-cut chips, Pilafe, and fresh-cut salad. Panayiotis said “It’s not Homemade it’s Boatmade” … btw if you’re a veggie just let them know … Dining on the decks, surrounded by panoramic views, elevates the experience to another level, somehow it just tastes better? … The unlimited wine and soft drinks might help a bit 😉
Crystal Waters
An integral part of the St. Georgios Boat Cruise experience is the opportunity to dive into crystal-clear waters. Anchoring at secluded bays, you’ll have the chance to snorkel or swim amidst vibrant marine life and underwater wonders. Whether you’re an avid snorkeler or a casual swimmer, these moments in the water will leave an indelible mark on your memory.
Sea Turtle
The next stop is the idyllic Green Bay, home of our resident Sea Turtles. The boat anchors up here and you can jump in for a swim or snorkel and if you’re lucky you’ll get a chance to swim with the turtles … if not they sometimes find them at Konnos … I have to say; I will never forget this experience … like, they were right next to me … just priceless!
Cultural Enrichment
St. Georgios Boat Cruise doesn’t just focus on the natural beauty; it also offers a glimpse into the cultural heritage of the region. Your host has such a passion for his cruises and shares anecdotes and insights about the landmarks dotting the coastline, adding depth to your journey. From ancient ruins, and smugglers’ caves to charming churches, each stop tells a story of Cyprus’s past and present.
Timeless Memories
Whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or as a couple, the St. Georgios Boat Cruise promises to create timeless memories. On board, the resident DJ plays a cool mix of 70’s 80, and 90’s classics while the gentle lapping of waves, the laughter of fellow passengers, and the stunning backdrop all contribute to an atmosphere of joy and relaxation, it’s been known for them to spot dolphins … OMG!

The Captain and crew set aside two Sunshine Cruises a week on Thursday & Saturday for the adults-only boutique cruise, from 10.30 am ’til 2 pm … with unlimited complimentary Champagne or red or white wine and hospitality to the extreme … it’s 16+ and there’s fewer people on board so a little more space
80s & 90s Sunset Disco
This is another adults-only evening cruise on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 5.30 pm ’til 9.30 pm with the resident DJ spinning his mix from the days when music was music and when funk was jazz funk and Motown was still in. They keep the numbers down here too, so there’s a bit more room … The complementary bubbles and red or white wine will help get the party going!
Sunset Cruise
On Tuesdays and Fridays, Captain Panayiotis and the crew take you on a Sunset Cruise along the coast of Protaras. It’s an adults-only cruise, Well, sunsets are made for a little romance … leaving at 5.30 pm ’til 9 pm, with a complimentary glass of bubbles and free red and white wine … btw, swimming at sunset at Blue Lagoon is just fabulous.
