My Way
I recently grabbed the chance to catch up with Robbie and John, a father and son team, so close it’s unbelievable … The family moved here in 2007, Robbie being a qualified Scuba Diving Instructor working in Cyprus for 10 years. He decided it was time to do something for themselves and bought the company last March, saying “I really wanted my own business, so I could do it my way”
Early Days
In fact; I met Christine and Rob who launched Undersea Adventures back in 2002 and we took the whole What’s On Crew for a go and all I can say is ‘what a fabulous experience, it was so much fun, it’s a memory I’ll treasure forever’, and I even bought the T-Shirt … At that time it was a totally unique business in Europe, as the only other place you can do this is in Mexico! I think you can now do it in Tenerife too?
3 Metres
Robbie, born in Great Yarmouth, who worked with the original team when they opened, invited me for a chat and told me to bring my shorts … As he explained; “I’ve worked with 4 different owners of Underwater Adventures over the past 20 years” … next thing you know I was walking on the sea floor with a 1920’s style divers helmet on. It was my third time, and I loved it as much as the first and the second … It’s so cool! … Then they invited me to come back and try the Undersea Scooters, how could I refuse?
Serenity at Trinity
Based at the beautiful, tranquil, Trinity Beach in the Ayia Triada area of Protaras, this adventure sport is totally unique in Europe! It’s an undersea adventure like no other, and trust me, it’s an ‘under the sea’ excursion you just have to experience at least once! Check out this Video
Helmets
Kitted up in wet suits and fitted with surface-supplied Helmets accompanied by fully trained professionals, you step down into the crystal clear calm waters of the Mediterranean Sea, surrounded by marine life. Walking comfortably on the sand to a depth of about 3 or 4 metres, or about 10 to 12 feet in English, where you’ll be able to feed the fish and enjoy a unique experience that’s suitable for the whole family. The activity underwater lasts about 30 minutes.
You can’t swim?
No, problem! … No lessons or swimming abilities are required. The helmets are very easy to deal with and you can even wear your glasses and adjust them or just scratch your nose while under the water, it’s weird lol … oh and btw, in case you think you’re too old, John and the crew once had the pleasure to guide an 86-year-old lady, that’d had two hip replacements, was almost blind and this was on her bucket list, absolutely amazing, so no excuses!!! … one of her comments was “it’s funny I could see better underwater”!
The Crew
John’s a Diving Instructor, an an ex-soldier and Ambulance driver, and a Scouser, Robbie was born in Great Yarmouth, and Paul is from Yorkshire, and Karl from North Wales, and most of the multilingual crew have been together for 7 years now and they’ll safely and expertly guide you from start to finish. They are all experienced divers and coincidently all mechanics, Robbie laughed as he said: “so we can fix all our own stuff, servicing and sanitizing all the wet suits and equipment every excursion”.
Selfies
Naturally, you’ll get a chance to get some unique underwater photos and videos, coz they’ll video your ‘Under the Sea’ adventure and hand you a GoPro 10 and GoPro 12, and then send it all to you digitally, so you can treasure your day forever … Their prime goal is to get 100% smiling faces and tbh, they always do! …
Bobs … aka Undersea Scooters
They also have a 007 Experience … That’s 4 Bobs, which have individual air tanks attached to your underwater scooter. The unique European experience lasts for about 30 minutes, after a quick briefing on how to operate the Bobs, which is actually really easy, your guides will lead you on an underwater exploration, collecting different things for you to see along the way. You can even link up with your friends while they’re enjoying their helmet-dive experience … I tried it this year and all I can say is ‘It’s absolutely brilliant’!
