Trinity Beach
Nestled just 100 metres to the right of the charming Agia Triada fishing shelter on the east coast of Cyprus, just where I start my morning walk with my dog Bandit, next to the Famagusta District Sailing Club, ‘Begafigo’ aka Cyprus East Coast Paddlers has become a vibrant hub for paddleboarding and water sports enthusiasts … Naturally, camera in hand always, I’ve managed to get some fabulous shots in the morning shimmers of the Med …
Two Decades
Founded in 2002, the club revived a local passion for sailing, which had faded after the 1974 occupation. Since relocating here in 2009, the club has grown into a thriving, non-profit community with over 300 members and a diverse fleet of dinghies and paddleboards.
Location Location
What makes Begafigo so special is its ideal location. Ayia Triada, aka Trinity Beach, offers fine golden white sand, clear shallow waters, often as calm as a millpond, next to a scenic fishing harbour and the iconic, tiny, blue‑and‑white church, and as luck would have it, the launch of Tulum Beach Bar right next door was a blessing in disguise!
All the Family
Anyone can join the club, from young families to seasoned paddlers, casual paddles, or club races through the academy, and I’m led to believe that lessons are available by request.
Non-profit Ethos
Membership fees and sponsorships are reinvested into equipment, safety gear, and infrastructure to enhance training, regatas and community events.
Events
Don’t miss the annual ‘Christmas SUPer’ race. Since 2023, Begafigo has hosted a festive SUP competition in December, drawing Santas and elves onto the water for a joyful paddle fest and prize raffle …
TrySail Day
This is becoming a popular initiative at the club, where kids and adults can try paddleboarding or sailing and SUP, with hands-on guidance and advice from experienced members. Over the years, the club has produced athletes with a competitive edge who have competed internationally, supporting Cyprus’s growing SUP representation.
Why Visit?
If you’re around Paralimni or Protaras, Begafigo offers a warm, skilled community, eager to share the joys of paddleboarding and sailing, with licensed instructors and safe conditions for all skill levels. Gliding along the coast to Trinity Bay or the other way to Sirena Bay … with regular events that blend the sport with social, festive fun.
