Old Water Mill at Agridi

Dali, Nicosia …
In this wonderful tranquil area called Agridi, very close to the mixed village of Potamia, in Dali on the outskirts of Nicosia, is an old water mill used in times past to grind wheat to make bread and other milled cereals …

Above the Mill you’ll find the reservoir, built with hand cut stone, that stored the water to set the mill into motion . A little below the reservoir, are the spare rooms and stables for animals arriving with the wheat to transform to flour … here the animals could rest and be refreshed … this is now an information room with info of other mills, aqueducts and viaducts, it was closed while i was there and I’m not sure when it opens …

Below the mill you can see how the mill’s water diversion system worked, using gravity to flow down hill . and from there the water was diverted back to the river hulls with the help of a series of canals …

Above and nearby you’ll also find this amazing construction to save a tree … love it !

While you are here you might as well visit the magical medieval chapel of Agios Dimitrianos and it’s very ancient icon …

Get out and see the real Cyprus !
