Happy New Year !!!
It’s January, my favourite month ! … my fav fruit, Cypriot Oranges are in season . the air is still fresh and clear, there’s no heat haze so you can see the northern range of mountains vividly, and everything is so green . It also means the summer is getting closer . the days are getting longer and warmer and I’m not sure if it’s me or are the summers getting longer every year ?
Worlds Best
The rainy season finally caught up with us but that’s a blessing coz we need the water and as we only get an average of 35 rainy days rain a year, who cares ? … I wonder how long it will be before we are a year round destination . well fact is, Cyprus has the best climate in the world !!!
Ski Cyprus
It’s skiing season, with The Troodos Mountains covered in snow, probably through ’til March … of course in Cyprus, you can ski in the mountains in the morning and swim in the Mediterranean in the afternoon or just check into a mountain accommodation and enjoy a little apres ski ?

It’s a totally different Cyprus up there, the real Cyprus, and in the winter it really comes into its element … Ski and snowboard equipment can be hired if you’re into spontaneity and some of the accommodation is a dream . Total tranquillity comes to mind ! … for more info www.skicyprus.com …
Progress
30 years ago I first stood in the square in Ayia Napa and knew this place had a future . since moving here in 1993 I’ve seen so much progress and I can tell where we are going . more golf courses, sports facilities and off season training grounds and theatres, marinas and leisure complexes and hotels with luxury spa’s and, well, you get my drift . in turn this will increase winter tourism . I know it’s on its way . all you have to do is believe, oh and rely on private enterprise 😉 … I’ve got loads of ideas if you’re interested ?
Catch Up
Winter also gives all us seasonal workaholics the chance to chill a bit, catch up with friends, light a few barbies on lovely fresh sunny days, or gather round an open fire on chilly nights, and catch up with the years events … as usual we went from summer to winter in just a few days . omg ! it’s cold at night, I even had to put the duvet on in December, unheard of !

Party Winters
Now, much as I love the vibe in the summer, I do love the peace and quiet on those fresh sunny coastal walks, with the off sea breezes and spray, they’re nothing but invigorating … likewise a stroll around one of our many harbours or fishing shelters … oh, and if you think it was party time in the summer, get a’load of winter in Cyprus !
Nightlife
There’s enough restaurants open all year to provide traditional Cypriot cuisine and just about every other cuisine you can think of, there’s plenty of bars and stylie cafes with lovely open fires and those tall gas heaters, many providing live entertainment . Communities like Soul in The Sun organising soul and reggae parties, and the night clubs, swinging towards the Cypriot market, and more and more summer seasonal workers who decided to stay for the winter, and boy do they know how to party !!!
Shop ’til you Drop !
It’s also shopping season, culminating with the February sales, which are starting earlier every year, I think they started on Boxing Day this year … Ladies, check the sylish Brouska and guys, BrouskaBlue in Paphos, Larnaca and Nicosia or London Clothing Company, who have shops all over Cyprus …
Live Gigs
Keep an eye open for things like live gigs at Savino Live in Larnaca, the Motocross season making its way around Cyprus and the Jet Ski Championships, when pretty much all the local watersports crews fight it out against each other … They’re great days out! might even see you down there? …
