Another Level
I recently managed to catch up with the extraordinary Larisa Budaca, General Manager of this luxurious accommodation located in Protaras, Cyprus. Originally from Bucharest, Romania, Larisa is impressively qualified, well-traveled, and internationally experienced with hospitality oozing from her persona, our meeting turned out to be my pleasure!
Early Days
I asked Larisa to tell me about her early days, Larisa said “I started working for International chains, firstly at The Hilton, Bucharest, which was built in 1927 and re-opened in 1997. I then moved up to Marriott International at J.W. Marriott, Bucharest Hotel, where I met the son of the owner Bill Marriott. I was working long hours and was driven to change my life when my daughter called me ‘grandma”.
International
Larisa continued; “so in 2001, I took a break, and started my own ‘Event Management’ for about 3 years, which was an amazing period in my life” … we started managing International events and exhibitions until the crises hit in 2008 for 2 years, so I put that on hold” … “I then studied, taking an Executive MBA at Bucharest Business School and The University of Montreal in Canada”. She continued; “last year was my first time in Cyprus, and it wasn’t long before I fell in love with Cyprus and this year I came back and fell in love with this hotel and Protaras”.
Wow Factor
I just love this luxurious accommodation located on the quiet side of Protaras. I asked Larisa to tell me more … Larisa said; “The hotel is about 350 metres away from the beautiful, serene Mediterranean sea at Lombardi Beach and Green Bay, where you’ll probably spot the local turtles. There’s a coastal path to the Protaras strip and the hotel boasts breathtaking views of the sea. All our new guests get that ‘Wow factor as they arrive!”
Cool Decor
Larisa continued; “The hotel offers a wide range of services and amenities that cater to the needs of all our guests, whether they are on holiday, business, or both”. The hotel offers 81 spacious comfortable twin or double rooms, most with sea views, and all equipped with modern amenities to make sure you have a comfortable stay”.
Sea Views
There’s 3 Wings to the hotel, 2 of them facing the sea and the other with side sea views. I like the way their Family Rooms are on the ground floor, with bunk beds for the kids and grassed terraces, onto a huge lawn for the kids to play, and baby cots are available on request.
Home Comforts
All the rooms have just been refurbished with new mattresses, they’re tastefully furnished and decorated, with full air conditioning, satellite TV, one of their wings boasts 50″ Smart TVs, there’s a mini-fridge, hair-dryer, a safe, and free, very fast Wi-Fi everywhere. Guests also enjoy a 24/7 reception service, a luggage storage facility, and a currency exchange service. All rooms have a balcony or a terrace with a table and chairs for a little alfresco relaxation.
Animation
I asked Larisa to tell me more … “The hotel offers an extensive selection of recreational activities for our guests. We’ve got a lovely outdoor swimming pool that is perfect for swimming, boasting brand-new pool furniture and sunbeds for perfect leisurely sunbathing. There’s a separate children’s pool, a fully equipped fitness center, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, and a steam room and Beach Volley Ball Court, with a very popular competition arranged every year”.
By the Pool
Ilios Pool Bar stocks all your favourite drinks and just wait til you try their exotic cocktails. There’s a pool table to crack a few frames and a table tennis table. I love the Pancake Station a must with an afternoon coffee or drink by the pool taking in the panoramic view of the sea, just wonderful!
On the Med
For their guests who love water sports, the hotel offers a range of activities, such as diving, windsurfing, and snorkeling. The hotel also has a nice tennis court and a mini-crazy golf course for a little fun with the kids, and grownups!
Dining
The hotel’s main dining area is in the Aurora Restaurant, serving a wide range of local and international dishes. They start the day with a gorgeous buffet-style breakfast, which you can enjoy, inside or outside on the pool terrace … Then lunch is an international selection of salads and hot dishes, also served on the pool terrace buffet style.
Evenings
Dinner is served both inside and outside on the terrace, buffet style with regular theme nights, including Cypriot and Italian, Asian, and maybe a couple of surprises, and guests can also order meals from the Grill or the A’la-carte menu … Larisa did mention that “this year all our pastries and desserts are going to be homemade, and just wait ’til you try the Tiramisu, you’ll be in for a nice surprise, mmm!
