Spot On
I’d heard so much about this place I decided to follow them on Facebook, impressed, to say the least, I finally got around to catching up with George. My first experience of their Angus Burgers served medium rare, confirmed my wish to add them to our guide, coz seriously, this place is on another level, immediately confirmed by many of my friends and followers in the comments on my Live Video …
Cafe Diner
As I arrived it looked really cool, a palm tree enhancing the facade … it’s sort of cafe diner style, just inside the covered terrace a few scattered tables, the cozy side terrace used for busy nights, inside a few more tables, plenty of space, and a pinball machine which caught my eye. I got a nice warm welcome from George who was busy so he put a euro in for me to have a go, I smashed it!
The Early Day?
I asked George about the early days? He said, “I studied human resource management at Derby University for 4 years, which included business psychology”. I asked if that had helped him? He said, “Yes! especially in how to get the best out of my staff”.
Chippies
George continued; “When I finished Uni I worked in Human Resources for a company with 600 employees. Then I was HR manager for many Fish & Chip Shops, to help take them to new level, by boosting their business. Next thing I knew, I got a call from Cyprus from a Southern Fried Chicken Shop in trouble, I came to help, and I ended up buying it, with absolutely everything I had in the bank” … That’s what I call ‘Total Commitment’!
Over 30 Years
George with South African origins, then opened Syno Flame Grill with his wife Christina on 11.11.2014, I missed their 10th anniversary by 2 days … but not many people know, that George’s father opened the first Syno Flame Grill in South Africa back in 1993. George added; “My father started it, I just adjusted it, created new recipes, I run it but he’s still the boss!”
Location Location
George’s original shop was as good as on the beach on Makariou Avenue, down on the traffic lights by the Police station at the entrance to Finikoudes … he said; “I wanted to serve High-Quality food, Eat in, or by Take Away or Delivery, but the main thing I wanted to do is make sure it arrives on time and still hot. We achieved that but realised that the noise and traffic pollution from the 8 bus stops right outside our shop made it the wrong place to sit and enjoy your food, so we came here and concentrated on TakeAway and home delivery, working closely with Foody and Wolt …
Specialities
When I asked George what their specialities are he said; “Well, except for the Ribs it’s the extensive variety of Burgers on our menu … served with proper Cheddar Cheese, and of course the original sauces, especially the hot ones with a South African Twist”, he finished, “people come from all over Cyprus, especially for the sauces”. I said; ‘we’ll get back to the ribs in a mo’ …
Generations
So, I asked George to tell me about his choice of beef … and quite amazingly he told me; “We were the first to bring the burger scene to Larnaca. We mated Black Angus steers with our cows at several local farms, which gave birth to more Angus beef and we’re now in our 16th generation and naturally, we get our beef fresh from our associated local farms … ah ha! that’s why my burger tasted so good!
Back to the Ribs
Arguably the best Ribs in Larnaca, using a family secret recipe since 1993, marinated in original secret Sweet & Sticky sauce. The Spare Ribs are slow-cooked using a secret 6-hour process and served with their authentic Africano sauce … and if you like them hot go for their ‘Many Tears of Joy’ Ribs, hot? … for those in the know, it’s 1,000,000 Scoville Units … Omg!!!!
Top Side
Not on the menu and leading the way has to be the Steak Burger, matured topside beef, flame-grilled medium with a blend of herbs and spices topped with melted cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion rings, served in a brioche bun.
Burgers
I can’t cover all of them, but there’s bound to be one or two that you’ll want to try … On my first visit I went for The ‘Bacon Philly’, 220 gr Black Angus Beef patty flame grilled and served in a brioche bun with cheese, onion rings, tomato and burger sauce. On my second visit, I tried a few Spicy Chicken Wings, a few Sticky Ribs, and a Jamaican Burger, served with Cheese Bomb Fries, it was too much for me!
Cool Names
There’s an extensive selection of pure beef burgers, with some really creative names. A few others caught my eye for my next visit; The Don Corleone Burger, 220 gr Angus patty with pepperoni, jalapenos, cheese and garlic sauce … or The Bad Boy; 220 gr Black Angus beef patty with melted cheese, onion rings, lettuce and bad boy sauce … or maybe The Elvis 220gr, with banana, bacon, cream cheese and peanut butter sauce … or Click here for the Full Menu
Chicken
They also serve four different Chicken Burgers, the Garlic Chicken Burger sounds delicious or the Hot ‘N’ Spicy with a spiciness level of 6/10 …
Hot Wings
There’s nothing quite like their Hot Wings, I have to say I loved them! … but be warned, their ‘Suicide Wings’ are unfinishable!
Sides
At the start of this article I said this place is on another level, well just wait ’til you try their chips … I think I had the Cheese Bomb Fries, served with Syno’s special cheese mix and Syno seasoning … but next on my must-try list have to be the Cowboy Chips, served with Syno’s special Cheddar Cheese mix, grilled streaky bacon and Syno seasoning … and maybe a pot of Black Pepper Sauce hmm, or Honey Mustard Sauce …
Competitions
Every now and then George and Christina hold several Competitions, with two main themes, firstly how quickly you can eat a 1Kg Warrior Challenge, the record currently stands at 3’38” … think you can beat it? What about 2 kg Warrior Challenge in 24 Minutes … George said; this guy did the First Burger in 3 bites, so if you can beat the record the meal is free, if you can’t beat it, you have to pay …
Hot Wings
The other theme is how many Hot Suicide Wings you can eat? be warned there’s one competition that is impossible! … George said; “we’ve had 17 events so far, all very successful with really cool prizes” … so keep your eyes open on their social media for the next competition … Give them a call or click here to find out More!
Special Offers
There’s always a Special Offer on each week, something different but the Kids Meal Deal is always very special …
Live Acoustic Nights
Look out for their special menu for their special acoustic nights with the fabulous Christos Christou, on the guitar and mic, playing rock and a little pop.
Reviews
George told me, “we have many excellent reviews including Facebook and we’re ranked very high by Foody at 4.7 Stars … in fact, we love to get reviews because in the long term, it’ll give us a better future” … Personally, I think their future is set !!!
