The infamous philosopher ‘Plato’ describes this as ‘Paradise’ and who are we to argue ?
I normally leave this page ’til last minute … it takes me a while to get started, yet really my fingers are just itching to tell you What’s On this month . This mythological rock has some sort of Aura that makes it so different from any other island in the world . Strange but true …
You’ll notice, I love Cyprus with a passion … ‘Special’ doesn’t even begin to describe it ! .. and if you’ve returned to this rock at least once, you’ll understand it’s even got it’s own distinctive smell . in my book Plato was spot on !
I’m passionate about my job and for those in the know, August isn’t my favourite month … 45C in the shade is just a lottabit too hot !, if there is such a thing ? Even the cold water isn’t cold enough ! .. August also means the whole of Cyprus is on holiday, so basically almost all commerce and industry closes and you can’t get anything done . so, as sophisticated, trendy, cosmopolitan, Nicosia spills down to the coast, and mixes with pure party, the result inevitably is electric ! … I can’t wait for September, it’s my favourite month 😉
Anyway it’s August, the youth thingy is evident, everywhere .. and why not ? their lack of inhibitions and smiles are infectious, so too their fashion, each year the girls seem to be wearing less and the guys prefer it that way … It’s school holiday’s so loads of little’ns around . and it’s too hot to do much except chill, but there’s so much to do ? and so little time .. Hmmm ?
Jazz Festival
Starting the month it’s one of my fav events, the 17th Annual Jazz Festival at Paradise Place in Pomos on 5th and 6th a must for all Jazz lovers !
Clubbing
The club scene is at its peak as the mix steps out of the basements and onto the beaches, with beach parties coast to coast … In the last 4 or 5 years we have seen an increase of stylie beach bars opening along the coast, aimed more towards the local market with weekly parties happening all through August … In July we had Armin van Buuren in Napa, Paul van Dyke in Limassol … this month Gareth Emery and the immense Paul Oakenfold at Guaba Beach Bar and we’re still waiting for world famous ‘Sensations’ to announce if they’ll rock Kapparis this August … Look out for the flyers and keep an eye on our facebook page …
Natural Waterfalls
Cyprus is a small rock, a maximum of three hours will drive you from far South East to high North West, along the coast, or from Kapparis to Pomos … So jump in the car and go touring, maybe a trip up to the mountains to get away from the maddening crowd and intense heat .. mmmm and cool down a bit at one of the natural waterfalls . On the way, stop off at one of the left back in time villages of Lofou in the Troodos foothills, where the annual August 4 day Lofou Festival revolves around the 15th, so that’s at least two good reasons to go !
Kids & Grown Ups
Pafos Zoo is open so why not take the kids to catch up with the animals, there’s nothing quite like kids faces when they come close to wild animals, check out the walk through Avery at bird feeding time, its a fantastic day out … maybe a jeep adventure up to the Akamas or a little alternative maybe try The Cyprus Maze at CyHerbia, who knows, you might be able to lose them for a few hours, safely 😉 … while you enjoy real cream teas or a glass of wine and check out their gardens and natural, herbal world …
Adventure
The Flyboarding Cyprus team have increased their adventure sport presence by helping set up and train other watersports to Flyboard and Hoverboard … I’ve tried it and let me just say, when you come out of the water like Iron Man and dive like a dolphin its just awesome ! … it’s also a great month to learn to dive, with the water at its warmest and where better to get away from the sun then discover the underwater world of the med … or to the other extreme try a wild helicopter ride up the west coast !
On the sea
Of course. August is perfect for a boat trip … From the crazy Fantasy Boat to the award winning Black Pearl, there’s glass bottom boats all over the place, catamaran, fishing trips and pedalos for the self pedal enthusiasts … Up in Paphos Wave Dancer leads the way as it Salsa’s up the West coast with stunning sunset dinners and a spectacular dinner firework party …
Greek Gods
Remember kids you didn’t start it, the Greek God’s did, some 12,600 years ago, right here on this wonderful rock we call Paradise, so as it was they who introduced us to the world of party but we’ll show them our gratitude and continue where they started and show them how to parrrrrrty twenty-first century style ! Cyprus Style !!!
