Coffee Shop 29 Bar, Larnaca

Coffee Shop 29

Intimate Bistro Style
Tucked down the bottom of Ermou Street the first shop on the entrance to old market in the middle of old Larnaca City is a gorgeous bistro style Coffee Shop Bar, it looks so inviting on the first glance but just wait ’til you get inside, vintage decor, it feels like its been here for ever, traditional, designed and built with a passion, their passion and I love it.  It’s cozy, intimate, chilled, with a Beer Garden out back and without doubt one of my favourites in Cyprus.

Intentional Coffee Day
It’s a crazy story coz Andreas and his father planned to open this place and called it Coffee Shop 29 coz the 29th of September was International Coffee Day, they had ideas, things like having a street party every 29.9 then the International Board changed it to 1st October … Andreas laughed as he told me “but we loved the name and hey everyday is good fresh coffee day”

Warm Welcome
Absolutely everyone is welcome, and there’s a cool mix of locals, ex pats and visitors from every thinkable country, something to do with the ambience, probably 😉 oh and of all ages coz they make awesome Smoothies here too!  In fact, Andreas and the crew are impeccable hosts, always with a smile and on the menu 20 Hot Coffees by Hausbrandt of Italy, Cappuccino for me, perfect …  most of them can be served chilled too.

Beer Garden
The new Beer Garden out back is open and looks well cool, so pop in and enjoy on draught Carlsberg or Keo, but in bottles Fix Dark and Fix Lager from Greece, Hoegaarden, my fav Stella, oh and a few Ciders, and this is really cool; Weiss Beer, a different one every time!

No reason why you can’t enjoy a glass of Wine in the shaded garden out back, inside or on the terrace out front, or upstairs a little more private, where you can watch the world zoooom by while you just chill.  Carefully selected Wines from Cyprus and Lambrusco Rose, a delicious Barrel Wine ‘Merastri’ from Crete, oh, and in the winter they serve an absolutely yummy Mulled Wine !

Here they excel, as they blend their cocktails with a passion using only imported Spirits and the freshest ingredients, even home made Lemonade and Mandarinade, served chilled, still or with soda … hmm I mixed it with a Dry Martini, delicious !

Lets start with the Mojitos, perfectly blended to your taste, others, too many to mention, my faves include; Chios Pirates, blend of Mastiha Liqueur, Rum, Elderflower, Cucumber and fresh Mint its a sort of Caribbean and Greek Fusion. My Sour Bitter Self, is a wicked mix of Campari, Gin, fresh Lemon, fresh Lime, and OJ, just amazing ! And last but definitely not least the Blue Moon Tequila, Gold Tequila, Silver Tequila, Blue Curaçao, Lime and 7Up … you’ll probably have another, but a warning, they creep up on you 😉

Not a huge Menu, coz it doesn’t have to be, everything cooked fresh and to perfection and served with love from a happy kitchen … stemming from their past, ‘Mainato’ was Photis’ old traditional Taverna, so expect traditional fayre, from the Cypriot Breakfast, grilled Lountza, Halloumi and Tomato, with slices of Salami, fried Eggs and Toast.  Oh and home made Burgers, with 100% Beef and you just top it up with a selection of toppings, oh and a Steak Burger coming soon, I can’t wait !!!

Unique Ideas
Their Cyprus Sandwich is awesome, Chicken, Bacon, Salami, Ham, Turkey, Lountza, Cheese, Halloumi, Cucumber and Tomato, filling to say the least ! They also do a BLT, but you must try their unique TNT, Tuna and Tartare, and an ACDC, Avocado, Chicken, Dill and Cucumber, just brilliant !!!

Naturally there’s a selection of fresh crisp Salads or the ever popular finger food to share with a bottle of wine to accompany a Cheese Platter, Mixed Platter or the Nachos Platter coz the dips are a compliment to the chef !

Relax Times
Following the old days the guys have chosen a fine selection of exotic flavours, chilled to your liking and naturally designed to pass and share … My fav the Blueberry and Mint …

A cool mix of live music on Fridays or Saturdays with guest DJ’s, acoustic nights and Sunday Sessions with English & Greek DJ’s, oh and there’s a big TV so you can catch the occasional important match.
