This has to be one of my favourite finds in Larnaca, the minute I saw it I knew this place looks the part. So I popped into to catch up with owner’s Stelios and Eleni recently for a chat. It’s just off Ermou street in Larnaca, slightly set back off the road, on a wide pavement. This little shopfront, nestled between a beauty shop and a jewellers, painted bright Italian Green, the name Capodecina grabbed my attention and I had to find out more …
Dine inside or Out
I popped into meet Stelios and Eleni, inside its clean cut, minimalistic, Italian designer style, with wooden flooring, comfortable seating for around 25 people inside and a few tables outside for Al’ Fresco dining … Stelios told me “we wanted to make it feel like Home from Home” … I loved the really cool photos chosen by Eleni, especially the one saying “Eat the Spaghetti to Forget your Regretti”, brilliant”!
The Godfathers Assistant
Over a delightful cappuccino, my first question as always, why the name? Stelios said “we wanted something traditionally Italian, the Mafia being very Italian we chose this because the Capodecina was the assistant to the Godfather, and we liked that very much”.
Stelios from Heraklion, on the island of Crete, studied from age 16 at Star Heraklion
Culinary School, one of the best, which included a Voucher Training initiative leading to
Stelios working for 6 months in a five star hotel in England and 9 months in Germany … I asked not Italy? and he said “they wouldn’t accept me on the voucher initiative as I was too young, so I choose Pasta and then of course I’ve had many holidays in Italy to learn about cooking pasta in different regions and to find the best ingredients for our menu.
Small but Big
In July 2021 Stelios and his wife Eleni found this lovely shop, he said; “it was little small but big enough to start … The idea was Pasta as street food, but they wanted some comfortable seating inside so you could enjoy your food here, but of course they would also provide a Takeaway and Delivery service.
Stelios told me “Most of our dishes are completely homemade and if not it’s bought fresh and local, or imported from Italy and we’ve kept the menu small, but there’s still 22 different pasta dishes to choose from” On that note; I promise that isn’t easy coz I have to say, all of them sounded delicious. My first choice to try before I write was the Chefs’ favourite the ‘Omerta’, pasta blended with fresh cream, chicken, bacon, mushrooms garlic and brandy, absolutely delicious!
Must go Back
I can’t wait to go back and try their signature dish The Ravioli di Capo, homemade Ravioli with goat cheese, three variety of mushrooms, the sauce created with fresh cream, onion mushrooms and white truffle, sounds delicious … oh and, I just have to say ‘this is such a chilled out find’
You can see their Full Menu here but let me just tell you a few other dishes that are going on my tick list … The Carbonara is a must, the sauce created with fresh cream, bacon, egg, and fresh ground black pepper and the Porto Bello, Fresh cream, a variety of mushrooms, garlic, onion, truffle oil and topped with parsley, mmm! And they also serve a few different salads, the Chicken Caesar salad looked wonderful
Make Your Own
I asked Stelios to explain the ‘Make Your Own’ dish … he said “first you can choose which pasta you want; Spaghetti, Tagliatelle, Rigatoni, Whole Wheat Penn, or Tortellini, then you choose your own ingredients to create the sauce, Broth, Roze, Fresca Tomato or Fresh Cream and we’ll make it just the way you like it”
The portions are plentiful but you can order anyone of 32 Extras with your pasta from extra parmesan, to Zucchini, chilli peppers, mussels, tuna, chicken and loads more … They also serve a selection of drinks and gorgeous fresh coffees.
Special of the Week
Every week they put on a special dish and they also have a ‘Fasting Selection’ with no meats and they regularly have special offers for business orders, members of the forces and people with special needs … Check out their Videos here …
Fresh from the Pan
This is one of the best pasta I’ve ever had the pleasure to try and I highly recommend you pop in to try it fresh from the pan to your table. Stelios & Eleni will always give you a warm welcome Italian style with a Cypriot twist, but they also provide a Takeaway and Delivery service working very close with Foody & Wolt home delivery … Check out their Facebook Reviews here and give them a call to book a table.
