It’s April, my favourite month, mainly because its the start of summer in Cyprus … there’s a distinct evidence of blossom everywhere, the fields are still green, another month of one or two showers, and then we probably won’t see rain again ’til at least September …
It’s also both Christian and Orthodox Easter on 5th and 12th respectively … it’s the most important religious celebration in the Greek Orthodox calendar, culminating on Sunday 12th April, with not to be missed congregations in all Churches in Cyprus, and there’s bound to be one near you … It’s the end of 49 days of Lent so all the Cyps will be lighting their BBQ’s, the aromas of bbq lamb are awesome … oh and btw, April is opening Parrrrty time !!!!
With all intents and purposes we should be quite busy through April, as the rest of Europe grab the chance to catch some pre summer Cyprus sun over Easter … I reckon we’ll get busy from around Wednesday 2nd ’til about 19th, then much as it would normally quieten down a bit, with commercial flight paths open to Larnaca, the ex Cyprus Airways landing spots being snapped up by airlines and tour operators, and a great exchange rate for our British visitors, we might see it stay busy ’til the end of September …
Driving around it’s obvious that there’s a lot of places getting ready to open in time for the influx of Easter visitors and in fact our nationals who’ll leave the villages and capital to come down to the coast, there’s renovations everywhere and new menus popping up outside eateries and the confirmation of big events this summer on the horizon. We’ll even see Carwash Disco opening in Napa on the 3rd to keep Club Black ‘n’ White company, as they have been rammed to over spilling all winter, and the first Fantasy Boat Party sails on Saturday 4th …
Club Deep are still doing it in Larnaca, and up on the west coast in Pafos, Touch Club promising to be one of the best nights out on Bar Street … Whilst Club Zoo still lead the way in the Capital Nicosia, oh and one I’m looking forward to Blood Brothers Tattoo Birthday BBQ, hint hint ! … I’m sure we’ll see quite a several places open just in time for Easter … and a few that just wont make it, a little bit after 😉 … Avrio! as they say in Cyprus …
Now, the App is in its second year, much as I’ve been running this mag since 1993, we’re now Eco friendly again, without killing trees, and I’ve been running around like a blue ass fly trying to keep our finger on the pulse … I’m loving my job and will keep pushing until I make this the best guide to Cyprus, just like its predecessor …
I wish I had a euro for everyone who’s asked me what I think is going to happen this year lol … I think I’ve covered that bit so, what else? well check out our facebook page for the day by day events and interesting post shares and keep your eye open for me and my camera 😉 …
We’ve also kicked off our Twitter account … Please follow us to keep up to date …
As it’s Easter why not make the most of Spring by driving up to the mountains or maybe take the kids to the Cyprus Maze, throw them in and chill out in the gardens at CyHerbia for a few hours, ignoring their screams for help I’m lost and enjoy delicious Cream Teas with real clotted cream from Devon mmmm! … or grab a few friends and check out ClueJob in Limassol, are you clever enough to escape? … Even Waterworld Waterpark will be opening on 7th …
Cyprus has a history that goes back over 12,000 years, with museums and archaeological sites to prove it … We’ve got cinemas, theatres, aquariums, sea and coarse fishing, golf courses, crown green bowling, horse riding, safaris, boat trips, helicopter rides, go karting, health clubs and beauticians and spas galore, some of the world’s best tattoo artists, plus shopping in abundance … The list of things to do is endless and the versatility guaranteed, all you have to do is decide what takes your fancy.
Right then, it’s April, with temperatures hovering around the 25C to 30C mark, so if you’ve come here for a tan, there’s no better place to be, coz as usual we’ve got the best weather in Europe … Blended with finest beaches, Ayia Napa and Protaras being voted 1st and 3rd respectively in Best Beach Resorts by Trip Adviser and with and the nicest sea I’ve ever had the pleasure to swim in, licensing hours that are as good as all day, not too good for the tan, one of the worlds top club scenes, and that amazing home from home feeling …
Remember this is the Island of Aphrodite, where sun, sea, socializing, ha ha, ok and sex, were all part of the norm, well what else would you expect? You don’t think that all those Greek God’s stayed here for nothing! We know you’ll have a great time and as the majority of you have been here before, I think it’s safe to say you’ll probably coming back again! …If it’s your first time in Cyprus, I can only ask why? If you’ve been here before, we all know why you keep coming back!, maybe its that smell as you get off the plane, unmistakable! If you live here, you’ll already know it’s one of the best places in the world, anyway, either way you’re all very welcome !
So to finish off as usual, if us lot at What’s On! can give you one tip, make sure you do at least one thing you’ve never done before! At least once 😉
