Impeccable History
I finally managed to catch up with the awesome Marios at The Stumble Inn, slightly off the beaten track in Ayia Napa … remembering him from his Kings Sword and Macronissos Village days not to mention Rafaelles Restaurant and the Hungry Horse … With impeccable history, this qualified Mechanical Engineer opened The Stumble Inn in 2013 sort of by accident!
Hidden Gem
I love really cool bars, up little side roads, and this is one of them. As always I asked Marios why The Stumble Inn? He answered, “We had lots of names on the table and we took a vote from everyone that knows us” … I have to say it’s a really cool name, quite apt coz you might just stumble across it by accident! … But whatever you do, I recommend you don’t leave it to chance!
European
The place looks traditionally British, well, it’s on a corner for starters, but these days it’s got a European twist as lots of their repeat clients are from various parts of Europe, particularly Scandinavia. There’s a covered terrace all the way around, the decor; lots of wood, comfy benches, colourful tables, low or high … a row of tall red stools surrounding the bar, oh and blackboards everywhere.
Free Pool Table
Marios truly is a wonderful host, so what you’ll get here is traditional Cypriot hospitality at its best … starting with a Free Pool Table, I might catch you down there to crack a few frames.
Behind the Bar
Serving an extensive selection of drinks … starting with a delicious Arabic coffee from Italy, served hot or cold, Espresso, Americano, and Cappuccino styles to mention but a few. Beers and ciders on draught, apart from Keo and Carlsberg, include Peroni and Thatchers … plus the slightly unusual IPA ‘Weissbeer’ unfiltered Ale from Germany, a favourite for their Scandie regulars and Marios mixes a wicked cocktail, warning; his frozen Daquiries are just soooo Moorish.
Munchies
Another reason I love this pub is it’s famed for its excellent kitchen, and its small but flexible menu, starting with Brunch … one of my favourites, the Brioche Brunch, eggs, bacon, cheese and lettuce on an open Brioche Bun … they also serve a delicious pasta bolognese, but the Penne Arapiatta with its tasty tomato sauce, understandably, is a top seller.
Lunch
The Pork Chops here are not one big one that doesn’t fit on the plate but two 250 gm chops, Marios said, “They are more tender when they are smaller” … then he said; “You really must try the Spare Ribs, trust me, they’re just the best; pork loin ribs, cooked in the oven for at least 3 hours, covered in our secret homemade BBQ Sauce”, I asked?, but he wouldn’t even tell me the secret recipe, but they left me licking my fingers as well as my lips.
Nepal Style
Sticking to tradition Marios also serves, beef, chicken or pork Geros, in pitta bread with salad and tzatziki sauce. But as the chefs both come from Nepal, you really must try my absolute favourite, their Chicken Curry Nepalese style, just a tastebud explosion.
Burgers
Serving a selection of Burgers, The Signature Burger is homemade with prime rib-eye beef and is arguably one of the best in town … and, if that’s not good enough then go for the Double Pleasure Burger, Mmm!
Sports & Events
These days Marios hosts only occasional live music nights … but when it comes to live sports Marios boasts 5 big satellite dishes … with 6 Big Screen TV’s and a huge projector screen he can get 5 different matches or in fact, 5 different sports on at the same time and the atmosphere gets a bit electric in here at times. So, the chances are you’ll find the football, rugby, boxing, athletics and tennis on here, in fact, all you need to do is text Marios in advance and he’ll probably find it for you.
