Local Shop
As you all know, I love giving the local shops my support and I finally managed to sit down with Maria at Supermarket Europe in Paralimni to find out more … You might have driven past this shop many times, as from the outside it looks quite small but surprisingly, inside it’s like a Tardis … I grabbed a coffee from the machine and asked Maria tell me more.
First shop
I was surprised to learn this was in fact their first shop. By ‘their’ I mean, Maria was married to Panagiotis of Supermarket Europe in Ayia Napa fame. In fact, they were childhood sweethearts meeting when they were 16. They moved here 9 years ago and worked in a local patisserie. I’d always thought this was their second shop of a mini-empire of 6 shops they eventually opened together. They’ve since parted relationship and partnership and this shop is now just Marias’ … through the doors a one-stop shop for all your needs without having to leave Paralimni and at really great prices.
European & Asian
Maria specialises in importing foods and more from all over Europe including; the UK, Romania, Germany, Sweden, Slovakia, and Poland, with more than a little bias towards Bulgaria, and even India, in fact, all over Asia. So, there are great choices in European and Asian style sauces and ingredients and they even sell Basmati rice by the 20 Kg sack for crazy cheap prices.
Delicatessen
In the Delicatessen Counter and fridges a fabulous display of Cured Meats, Smoked Hams, Salami, Sausages, Fresh Eggs, Olives, and Specialty Cheeses, including a delicious Fresh Bulgarian Feta, oh and, you must try the marinated Spare Ribs. Plus a selection of frozen meats, fish and poultry, and even duck.
Essentials
Naturally, you’ll find all your basic essentials, including; international teas and coffees, milk, yogurts, breads, sugar, and pet foods and treats for your cats and dogs. There’s Cereal, Puff Pastry, Noodles and Pasta, Heinz Baked Beans, Pulses, and Ravioli.
Fresh Daily
There’s a large display of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables from local farms so you can help yourself … in fact, Maria says, “I really enjoy keeping my eye open for new products so there’s always something new in the the shop”
For the Home
Domestic goods like cups, glasses, saucepans cooking utensils, plates, Tupperware, and an excellent selection of makeup, like eye shadows, face creams and aromatics, toiletries, disposable nappies, including things like Pampers, and talcum powders and even washing baskets, and hair colours by Prestige and Colour Aroma. There’s also a little Second-Hand corner with a selection of clothing.

There’s also a selection of electrical products like plugs, adapters, light bulbs, party grills, heaters, and more …
