Mambos Bar & Restaurant, Kapparis

Good Start
I was invited by Steve and Faye to find out what’s on at Mambo’s, the newest, jazziest, classiest, eaterie, on the strip in Kapparis and I must say I’m glad I found this early because it obviously looks like they’ve got it right from the start …

Hospitality
Steve and Faye have decades of experience in the entertainment and hospitality world including things like cabin crew for First Choice, based in the Canary Islands and more recently at Kokos Bar & Grill, and tbh, the whole crew here are very well oiled!  I love the story about how this couple met, but Steve tells it with more passion, so it’s better coming from him 😉

Down South
Naturally I had to ask why Mambo’s, I joked, nothing to do with Nando’s?, he smiled and said “maybe” … explaining “if anything, we wanted to bring a new concept to the area, with a hint of a Mediterranean fusion with South America” … But I love the name, the décor very cool, the little touches here and there tells you know they mean business.  There’s a lovely long terrace on the sunny mornings side of the road, and indoors spacious for your parties … or those chilli winter nights …

Kitchen
Heading up the kitchen is Faye with a cool team to help her … The menu a fusion of Cyprus, South America and their unique imaginations.   For starters, things like Mozzarella Sticks served with a garlic mayo dip or Wings & Dips, homemade soup and crusty bread or maybe next time the Green Lip Mussels served in a creamy sauce that look delicious …

Gumbo
Their menu is creative to say the least, and much as I fancied the New Zealand Rib-eye Steak, my first choice just had to be the Sausage, Pepper and Spiced Rice Gumbo, a blend of many different spices, Kayan pepper, fresh chilli, sausage chunks and rice, all pan fried, fresh to order, a served to your taste, just brilliant! … and when I asked for a little natural yogurt to accompany, they happily obliged …

Variety
Other mains on my tick list, apart from the whole menu, are The Honey Sesame Chicken and Mambo’s Lime Salmon with avocado and mango salsa … or maybe a NZ Fillet Steak or the Pesto and Parmesan Pasta Bake … I think I’ll probably end up trying all the dishes in time, they all sound delicious … and if you fancy a salad that Big Fat Greek one sounds my sort of salad, add some chicken if you fancy!

Diner
It should be in the ‘Diner’ category, much as the crew don’t wear roller skates, instead a really cool uniform sort of Hawaiian style, but you just know this place is gonna be famous for its Burgers … coz, the one I had on my second visit was just amazing … They’re really different, served in a cool red bun, with a choice of toppings, you can go plain or spicy, chicken or veggie, I went for the All American topped with cheese, crispy bacon, onion rings and BBQ sauce, but next time it has to be hmm …

International
Understanding everyone has different moods when It comes to eating out, Steve and Faye make sure you can enjoy a snack too, so expect to find Brioche Subs and Wraps, delicious Pizza and Steaks, Chicken or Pork served by the gram or ounce in English … the 9 oz Fillet probably will be my next meal there lol

Veggies & Vegans
Naturally in a first class eatery you’ll also find several choices that will suit your diet, the Mambo Salad of mixed leafs, tomato, cucumber, Mediterranean couscous, avocado and apple sounds refreshing!

Early Risers
They also serve a wicked selection of Breakfast from a full English to bigger versions, healthy options, Bacon Rolls, and the French Bread Roll-ups, stuffed with Banana’s or Strawberries and Nutella with cinnamon sugar coating will be a must when I’m next passing in the morning and maybe again with a nice fresh ground cappuccino in the afternoon … oh and they’ll pretty much size anything down for the kids or granny …

Afters
oh, and as if you’re already stuffed, you’ll have to go back just for one of their fabulous desserts, to accompany a lovely cappuccino … the Knickerbocker Glory looked good … The Coconut Sorbet served in the shell, is tempting, but the Chocolate Crunch Cake is as good as I remember it, oh, and the Carrot Cake for all you good girls, not!

Behind the Bar
The gorgeous bar crew will serve your favourite tipple from a fully stocked bar … a lovely selection of wines and of course beers on draught, Carling, Carlsberg, Keo, Leon, Hobgoblin Red, and Coors Light, oh and Thatchers Gold … plus several bottled beers … Oh, and you name it, they’ve probably got the spirit lol … but their signature cocktails are on another level … Lina, omg! how gorgeous, mixed me The Mambo’s Bumba, in a cool, tall Tiki Glass, it’s Bamboo Rum, blended with banana, mixed with Tia Maria, coke and fresh lime juice … even their Pina Colada is different, using fresh coconut milk instead of cream … naturally they’ll shake you any classic cocktail you fancy!

Parties
The crew welcomes inquiries for private parties and special events with buffet options, and a takeaway catering service for your parties at home … There’s plans for classical guitar nights, Live DJ nights, and anything-goes nights, so look out for more here …

Specials
With 5 Big Screen TV’s showing all the live sports … Look out for their daily specials, I’m going on Tuesdays for the Chicken Tikka Wrap, with a pint, glass of wine, or soft drink for only €6.90 and various offers like 5 Bottles of Carlsberg in a tub for €9.50 and House Shots for only €2 … the Cranberry Cookie Shots, just mind-blowing, literally, if you have enough of them lol
