What's On Cyprus

Naturally I had to ask why Mambo’s, I joked, nothing to do with Nando’s?, he smiled and said "maybe" … explaining “if anything, we wanted to bring a new concept to the area, with a hint of a Mediterranean fusion with South America” … But I love the name, the décor very cool, the little touches here and there tells you know they mean business.  There’s a lovely long terrace on the sunny mornings side of the road, and indoors spacious for your parties … or those chilli winter nights …

It's on the top road, quite apt really coz this is without a doubt one of the finest eateries in the area, offering a captivating fusion of Tex-Mex, Native American, and American diner cuisine.  You'll find it nestled between the two sets of traffic lights, at the top of the strip, before the Prophet Elias lights, tbh you can't really miss it, it's the one with the teepee tent on the top, and its spacious, to say the least.

The first impressions were the different design, open-fronted, industrial with minimalist tones, steel pillars, raw concrete and polished wood, high ceilings, really cool lighting, comfy seating, designer signs and the menu, 'different' to say the least but let's just say it's more of a diner than a cafe and highly recommended ...

It's amazing how many people still didn't know this place exists ... it's situated in the village of Avgorou, and includes beautifully landscaped herb gardens, the woodland area created in the shape of Cyprus, scattered with the endemic trees and shrubs of Cyprus, a Lavender Labyrinth, and it boasts the first and only hedge maze on the island, all 2000 sq.m. of it ...

I just love it when I find something by accident, especially when it's this special ... Opposite Liquid Cafe, so I'm normally looking that way, is this fabulous discovery ... It's a cafe snack bar with a unique twist ... there's a few tables on the entrance, two big beer barrels sporting huge white letters, Wine & Beer ... Quite Appt.

The name Karas is synonymous with quality fresh fish, and it's regarded as one of the best fish restaurants in Cyprus, so its naturally a Cypriots favourite, and purely by reputation, they come from all over Cyprus to eat here !

I met with Alexandra in Cafe Central, and over a delicious cappuccino I asked her to tell me more, starting with why my cappuccino was so good?  She smiled and said, "We selected Robusta coffee beans, from southern and central Africa, because it's an international multi-award winning coffee, with a woody, spicy, slightly bitter taste, that we preferred over Arabica" ... oh and just wait til you see the menu ...

I was thrilled to finally get a chance to catch up with Zannetos at Fig Tree Bay Zefkas George & Son Restaurant, and I was amazed to learn that the history of Fig Tree Bay actually started here ... This beach, of course, has always been popular with the locals way before tourism really existed. Situated on the far west of Famagusta Bay, where the locals went to get away from it all, in the days when there was absolutely nothing here but sand and a few footprints ... It looks stunning from outside, recreated to look like the inside of a cave, with huge Dinosaur bones, arches and skeleton relics everywhere and I just love the Lizard stools ... all the crew are dressed up in character and of course Fred parked the Flintstones car outside, so don't forget to get a selfie or two ! Oh, there's big screens for all the live sports and a pool table and a cool beer garden with cool kid's play area out back.

I asked manager George how it all started? ... George said; "In 2018 it was just sand, in 2019 it was a canteen-style Kiosk.  We leveled it to the ground, removing rocks, bamboo bushes, and Acacia trees, and Paragka was rebuilt in 2021"  The whole idea was totally and inspirationally designed by George, now it's a sophisticated Beach Hut with its idyllic location, inviting a relaxed ambiance, accompanied by delectable cuisine, Paragka Beach Restaurant has become a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists alike.
