The early days
Not a lot of people know, that it in 1990 when Petros opened the pub in Protaras it was almost called Fawlty Towers, but Only Fools & Horses won and in the early days, every day, all day you could watch all the episodes of the TV show, even when the live sports were on.
Second Pub
Then in 2002 Petros and Lambros opened in Pernera too, and 28 years later most people cant even remember Del boy & Rodney, and much as the name stuck, these days you might find the occasional happy fool, an excellent food menu and the only horses are on on the big screens during Cheltenham 😉
Horses for Courses
Lambros who heads up the Pernera Pub, explained we had to go with the times and old TV programs got dropped and we started a little entertainment and the pub matured, signs and blackboards every where and pretty much the same crowd would come in, a mix of young guests and the more mature lot who still remember the show and their popularity grew when the snack menu changed into a real pub grub menu … but rumour has it the car might be back soon 😉
In the Kitchen
Lambros is also the head chef, opening for a Full English Breakfast or a nice idea when in Cyprus, it’s Breakfast in a Bap, Brilliant ! … Their special is the huge Pork Chop & Chips, But tbh everyone’s favourite in here is the Cod & Chips arguably the best in Cyprus, it’s just seaside’ish if you get my drift?
Menu
It’s a bit hard to resist the BBQ Spare Ribs, marinated, then slow cooked for 4 hours before being covered by Lambros’ secret recipe BBQ Sauce that’ll leave you liking your lips. The Sirloin Steaks are delicious but my absolute fav has to be the King Prawns in Garlic for starters and the Lamb Shank in Mint Sauce, it just falls off the bone.
Snacks
Choose Sandwiches, Burgers, Mexican Burgers, Tower Burgers, Wraps or The Tika Masala or just a good old Cypriot Pork or Chicken Souvlaki aka Shish Kebab, cooked to perfection over real Charcoal ! OMG I almost forgot the Pizza made with beautiful Italian Style Dough, nice and deep, just wait til you taste the difference … Oh and they’ve got a kiddies menu !
Behind the Bar
Expect to find your fav tipple with Draught Beers that include; The specialist beer Hob Goblin, Coors, my fav Stella Artois, Carling and Thatchers … all served to the table by the lovely bubbly Nicole, and the gorgeous friendly crew, who’ll provide awesome service and if they’ve got time they’ll rack up the pool table or throw a few darts with you …
Exotic Cocktails
Or is that erotic Del ? lol, I think there’s 69 different cocktails, hmm, all with their own names, you can’t help laughing … like Del Boys Delight, blended with white rum, or Martha’s Marvel, vodka, apricot brandy, peach snaps, orange juice and strawberries, its delicious …
Sports
There’s memorabilia all over the place, stuff sent by loyal customers over the years, and 8 huge TV Screens showing all the live sports with English Commentary making a great atmosphere for the big footie games …
