An eatery of the highest esteem, I love the crazy paved terrace, shaded by tall mature trees, that twinkle delightfully as the sun sets, the crazy colourful tables and chairs, almost kindergarden'ish, little alcoves of comfy seating, hammocks set up high in the trees, whilst down a tier, skirting the rocks, a pathway leading to the almost private beach on the left, that'll have mellow music and waiter service and there's plenty of sunbeds, all with a view to die for, a sea of serenity at Sirena Bay ...
... But tbh, The Square Bar is probably better known for the entertainment and live music played here every night from 8.30 pm 'til late. That's mostly down to Peter and Rob, of the legendary 'Live Lounge' Cardiff fame, who partnered up with Panicos in 2014 to bring you the very best in live bands, duo's and solo artists ... By night it's chill out early, then by 10'ish it's best described as a Pre-Club Party Bar, with a wicked sound system, lights and smoke, confetti 'n all, so be warned you might not make it to the club coz this lot party every night … With resident and guest DJ's through the season, the music, playing a cool mix of House, R'n'B and Classic Party tunes with MC's that'll get you up on your feet and you'll be dancing on the the dance floor, podiums and well, pretty much anywhere you wanna! ... I've been eating at Ropas since my first season here, the year they opened in 1991 … It's one of my favourite places to eat if I fancy authentic Cypriot Meze … Of course I've known Costas and his wife Nikki since then and I have to say this guy oozes traditional Cypriot hospitality, so too Nikki and family, son Stelios out front and daughter Flora helping Nikki in the kitchen, tbh this team are really hard to beat!
Mix it Up I love the way they extend their hospitality to allow you to mix it up and add a little grilled meat to your fish meze or a little seafood to your meat meze and they also have a selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes with a promise there's no cross cooking here!
Specialising in Pork or Chicken Souvlaki cooked over real charcoal nice and slowly … They’re getting good vibes about their Gyros made with pork, beef, lamb or chicken using the family recipe, marinated for two days before being slow cooked on the Rotisserie … served in Greek or Cypriot Pitta Bread, topped with salad and a selection of sauces … but I must say the Pork Steak in a Bun is delicious! …
... they call them seasonal 'Rain Gifts', and this is where this place excels ... because this Tony and the family are dedicated to bringing you the freshest and most sought after wild Cypriot produce, like baby wild Artichokes, Snails, fresh Asparagus, and a regular trip to Paphos to find rare Wild Mushrooms, is all part of the norm, Tony often walking 15 to 25 km a day to bring you the best selection that night ... needless to say if you like wild Mushrooms omg, this place is a must !!!
What I really love about this place is nothing is pre-cooked, everything freshly homemade and mostly, traditionally grilled to order over real charcoal in a way that only the Cypriots can … and btw, Pampos' wife Maria in the kitchen to make sure everything is cooked perfect!
... it's almost inevitable that this place goes from home dining to partying like only the Cypriots know how!
