Summer’s Here
It’s June, my favourite month, and I’m loving it! coz summer is well and truly here with temperatures hitting over 35°C, the days are getting longer with sunrise about 5.30 am and it’s still not dark at 8.30 pm, the sea is now officially warm enough for the locals to get in, and the quilt came off during that crazy heatwave we had last week, so we’ll be sleeping under a sheet for the next few months, oh and as we come to the end of strawberry season, in comes the pip-less watermelons, served chilled with a slice of fresh Halloumi for breakfast, Mmm, we’re so spoilt in paradise! … but, I think I’m gonna be saying a few maybe’s and if’s, and hopefully’s this month, and if I can give you just one tip, it’s make sure you drink lots more water!
Topical
The current Covid Crisis has hit us all hard, throwing us into a sci-fi film set back in March, we’re now on ‘Take 82’, and tbh, I think the Cyprus Government got it right … They reacted very quickly, rumour has it from a little inside tip from one of our Chinese investors … They attacked the pandemic with the only possible solution, ‘To Slow it Down’ … then using experts in epidemiology they mathematically calculated when things would get back to normal’ish … and we’ve lifted restrictions in travel, no more SMS messages to go out, no more curfew, we’re allowed to swim in the sea and top up the tan after, and the restaurants and bars are opening and it seems people are getting together with friends, so please pop out and give these guys some support, they need it most now!!!
Clubbing
The 100 Day Club War, normally starts around mid-June, but we’re still waiting for them to open, tbh I’m expecting that to be 1st July!, so this year it might be the 60 Day Club War lol … Napa, once the Club Capital of Europe, is still hard to beat, with 8 top clubs giving you a broad mix of genres. Club Ice as always have lots planned with Foam Parties and UV Paint Parties and top DJ’s flying in from everywhere. Castle Club usually in full swing by now, with 5 Rooms, giving you a choice of party sounds and classic house to hard house and R’n’B as much as you like, and an alfresco VIP lounge under the stars, with the retractable roof right back, so maybe that part of Castle Club might open this year … while Black ‘n’ White, would be well into their 36th year, booking some massive names this season, currently being rescheduled and it’ll still the place to be if you like it Urban, and of course let’s not forget Carwash, if you like it cheesy, trust me you’ll leave singing all the way to Club Aqua, the Afterparty …
Beeeeeach!
Of course, all the Beach Parties and Pool Parties would normally be in full swing, with Pambos Napa Rocks Pool Party still leading the way and I believe planning to open soon … Kandi Fest is getting bigger every year out at Maccronissos … while up in Limassol, Club Eleven offers our techno freaks a little something special and Sunset Tribes still hoping to get a gig or two down at Governors Beach this month … Naturally, Guaba, one of Europe’s top clubs is on the beach and waiting to smash it in their own unique way every weekend!
Music Festivals
Chatting with my good friend Mario the other day who let me into a few secrets about this years BCL Music Festival planning to kick off by the end of June. I’m gonna meet up with Mario for a chat on 1st June, so stay tuned and look out Ayia Thekla these parties will be a little more intimate this season, but they’ll still rock that beach! Oh, btw I just love their Full Moon Beach Parties …
Live Gigs
Kendall Events had booked some awesome tribute bands for you and Karen is trying to Reschedule them rather than cancel them with eternal optimism, and I can’t wait! … I’ve been in regular contact with the gorgeous Drew at Savino Live in Larnaca hoping to rock your weekends and Bank Holidays … a few more like O’Neill’s Irish Bar & Grill in Paphos, Karsouros Music Bar in Protaras, Tepee Rock Bar in Limassol all can’t wait to get back to regular live music, rock or not! and OMG its only 4 months to Cyprus Rocks 2020, which I reckon might be the biggest music festival this year …
Wed in the Med
So this is normally wedding season, and we’re still the No: 1 place in Europe to get married, and why not? coz, it’s probably not going to rain ’til October, and everyone in the wedding photos will be wearing sunglasses, oh and we’ll have lots of Stag Nights and Hen parties and as we’re officially the Mythological Party Playground of the Mediterranean, anything could happen … Check out Kat’s for unusual wedding gifts, Snazz that Glass, an awesome idea and our Florists, Maria up in Paphos, Arocaria in Napa and Antonis in Paralimni … and if you need a really cool hair stylist, we have more than a few of them too … oh, and some awesome photographers too!
Out & About
June is a great month to get out of town and go for an adventure, coz it’s good to see the real Cyprus. I highly recommend places like The Camel Park, Pafos Zoo, Ocean Aquarium, maybe an open-air market, a secluded beach, the Troodos mountains with Trackers Excursions, or back to nature with Jimmy’s Jeep Adventures in Paphos, or the Traditional Cyprus Bus in Paralimni and the awesome George’s Fun Bus in Paphos. And one of my favourite days out has to be Sayious Adventure Park
Cultural
After Paphos’ up on the West coast boasted the Cultural City of Europe a few of years ago it just seems to be rolling on and spreading throughout Cyprus with almost daily events, for more check out the CTO Events calendar … One of my favourite venues for culture has to be The Rialto Theatre in Limassol kicking off the summer with a drive in cinema on the 17th June …
Even More …
So we are working on the new App and it’s looking absolutely awesome, and I believe it’s the only dynamic App on Cyprus, driven by a wicked web site with over 1,600 pages and over 25,000 photos, all one word searchable, oh, and don’t forget to follow us on our Facebook page, unless of course, you prefer, Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest … and last but not least please subscribe to our YouTube channel … See one touch links below …
Tough Year!
And as forty-six percent of our economy is based on tourism, and the repercussions go all the way down to the paper merchant, I have a strange feeling it’s going to be a hard year as we are only expecting about 30 % of last year’s 4 million visitors, so I hope you’ll all still come and prove the statisticians wrong!
Finally
If your favourite hotel is still closed, do look for a nice villa for the family … and if it’s your first time here, all I can ask is, why? … If you’ve been here before, welcome back, and we all know that you’ll keep coming back time and time again, and eventually you’ll probably end up moving here!, anyway, you are all very welcome, and really finally, step up the UV factor, drink loads of water and make sure you do something you’ve never done before!
