Après Dive
I loved this place the moment I saw the name, Rich aka Stevo told me “it’s the only divers chill out garden lounge bar in the area, an après dive meeting place, linked to Cyprus Diving Centre next door and the natural add-on to every divers heaven, somewhere to chill in a gorgeous beer garden out back and enjoy a drink after the dive” … and btw, there’s no plastic straws here, of course!
Beer Garden
Like any traditional British pub, outback there’s a spacious beer garden with mature trees, comfy seating, umbrellas and a BBQ Area … and btw, it’s a great venue for a birthday or private party, with Rich putting on delicious BBQs, lovely spreads or buffets … check out their wedding photos on their Facebook page
Gig in the Garden
At the end of every month, they hold the now famous and very popular ‘Gig in the Garden’ with live entertainment, at least 4 or 5 shows, with BBQ, buffet nibbles, cool drinks offers and lots of like-minded people having a good time, all day! Booking is essential coz it’s a locals favourite!
Your Juke Box
But, there’s loads more to this bar than that; for starters, it’s a Northern Soul Pub, with a really cool Vespa Scooter on display … then it’s like a never-ending Jukebox every night if you can name a ‘track’ and they can’t find it you’ll get a free shot! … oh and, if he plays it, tell him Tony from What’s On said “you can have a free shot, just coz you asked for a record request” 😉
Free Margarita
On that note; if you’ve never been here before, you really must go and check it out, and as soon as you get there, say “What’s On 22“ to Stevo and he’ll give you a Free Frozen Strawberry Margarita to accompany that free shot! … I’m liking this place even more now 😉
Modern
It’s a British Style pub, from the outside to inside, cool decor, really cool signage and some really comfy seating on the front terrace to enjoy breakfast or a drink in the late afternoon sun and watch the world go by …
Inside
Cool décor, pristine, the bar all wood and red brick, it’s spacious with comfy seating and I love the log burner, for those chilly winter nights, especially when Rich cooks my Pizza in the oven section. There’s separate games area, with a Bar Football Table, a cool pristine Pool Table, with regular ‘Killer Pool’ games and btw, they’ve got a couple of Pool teams so if you’re good enough pop down and join them or maybe start another? … oh and, there’s a winter pool league, who knows you might make the first team?
Music & Sports
There’s a DJ Box and Dance Floor coz Rich is a DJ and evidently loves his Northern Soul … there’s also a selection of books to pick up and read. Sadly, Liverpool shirts and memorabilia everywhere, in fact, they’re the official Liverpool FC Supporters Club for the Ammochostos area in Cyprus. I suppose that’s the only thing that lets this place down 😉 … of course, there’s 4 large TV Screens showing all the live sports, including Football, Tennis, Darts, Cricket, Formula 1 and Rugby … in fact if you ask Rich to find it for you, he will.
Over 20 Years
I met Stevo when he first arrived in Cyprus, we created all his ID, stationery and signage for his first diving centre and a nicer bloke you couldn’t meet, hmm, if you can get used to his friendly abuse … No Problem, I love it and give him some back! … I asked him why he launched the Tipsy O’Turtle and he said: “well we always end up going for a drink after a dive so it was logical. It’s somewhere for all us divers to get together and talk about our experiences, and conveniently it’s right next door to the diving centre or to the left, in this case.
Behind the Bar
Rich is an awesome bar steward 😉 serving just about every drink you can imagine, your fav spirit, mixers, long drinks, cocktails and on Draught; Carlsberg, Keo, Leon, Magners Cider, and Guinness and you gotta love the Guinness Surger, that makes your canned Guinness as close as you can get to a pint of black gold from the Green Isle, that occasionally comes in handy these days … Plus several bottled beers including the unusual Kozel from the Czech Republic, fast becoming a pub favourite!
Tipsy Hours
Rich calls them ‘Tipsy Hours’ aka as ‘Happy Hour’ in most pubs. Every day from 4 pm to 6 pm and for every Live Football Match … when it’s Buy 2 get 1 Free on selected drinks which changes weekly … very cool … naturally, the atmosphere here for the game is awesome! and when there’s no football on they’ll probably have some live acoustic guitar …
Menu
The food is traditional pub grub, with a twist … in the kitchen, top chefs start the day with one of the best English Breakfasts I’ve tried in Cyprus, which can be twisted into a Belly Buster if you’re hungry … and I hope you get a chance to try their ‘Indian Curry Nights’, coz Stevo makes an awesome ruby Murray … Mmm!
Munchies
I have to say, “they cook one of the best Fish & Chips I’ve ever had”, some say they rival Dhekelia and Ayios Nik … I love the Tipsy Nachos, extra cheese please, The Divers Pizza a divers fav and the toasties and wraps a lovely snack, my fav the Bacon and Halloumi wrap.
Spuds
You really must try the Jacket Spuds all fluffy and full of butter and lots of toppings … check out the regular special offers like their Cajun Chicken & Bacon … Mmm! …
Pizza
Rich makes a wicked Pizza, fresh to order with a wide selection of toppings, and in the winter he cooks it in the top oven of their log burners … perfect!
After’s
Famed for the best Lemon Meringue Pie I’ve ever tasted, and I just love the Banoffee Pie, even more, both a lovely afternoon treat to accompany a nice coffee with a good book from their cool Book-Corner.
Sunday Sessions
If you like a Sunday Roast, look no further, coz they serve an absolutely fabulous traditional Sunday Roast Dinner, with a choice of 3 types of meat, beef, lamb, or chicken, complemented by a selection of roasted Cyprus Potatoes and seasonal fresh vegetables, Yorkies and delicious gravy … oh and btw, it may be advisable to book 😉
Entertainment
Attracting an international mix of Locals, Brits and Scandies and of course lots of repeat tourists. The ambience is very friendly, family orientated and great fun on a busy night and there’s many of those … including; regular Pub Quiz Nights, and Northern Soul Nights on the First Saturday of the month … and they’ll find any excuse to party especially, Valentines, Saint Patrick’s Day, Easter, and stuff like that … check out their Videos here … and check out their Facebook page for up to the minute info …
Beach Clean
I just have to say that their regular beach clean-ups are a cool idea, Rich and all the crew and local helpers meet up to help keep our beaches clean … oh and Rich goes that little bit further and invites everyone back to the Tipsy Turtle Pub for finger bites and a drink … awesome idea and did I mention? they only use paper straws here and they recycle everything!
Round Up
I can’t recommend this pub enough, as they make every effort to get it right by day or night.
