I popped in to catch up with Frixos and the crew to make sure they’re staying open this winter and I’m happy to say ‘it’ll be business as usual as they’re one of the few restaurants in the area that stay open almost all year, with such good, local support, and of course, they’re currently following all health and safety protocols … meanwhile …
Oozes Quality
As soon as you see this place, you’ll know it oozes quality … but tbh, it’s much, much, more than it first seems …
Pool and Beer Gardens
Effectively, it’s a mini resort, with a spacious area boasting a large swimming pool and cafe-style pool bar, surrounded by mature trees, delicious green lawn, palm sun shades, canvas sails and a lovely relaxed ambience in a truly wonderful setting with free sunbeds and free WIFI.
Entertainment
There’s nightly entertainment in the gardens throughout the summer and and with Live Music, occasional nights through the winter with regular visits by Matheus on the violin & Marios on guitar, highly recommended btw … oh and Ladies Night is lots of fun … for all their upcoming events check out their Facebook page.
International Restaurant
It’s a family-run restaurant, at the helm, ‘Frixos’ is an awesome host gifting traditional Cypriot hospitality like no other and amiably assisted by Andri adding the female touch and Mike, always serving with a smile … The ever-present Emma, pulls it all together and Head Chef ‘Savvas’ says he runs a happy kitchen, that way you’ll get food served with passion.
Unique
I asked Savvas about the old days, he said; “I trained in Germany for 10 years, 2 years in France and 2 in Italy, and I’m always looking for new recipes”. So he is truly international in experience and compliments his menu with ten top international chefs, including a Silver Needle Sous Chef from Thessaloniki, Greece
The Menu
It’s varied, to say the least, with Full English or Continental breakfasts, The Meze Starters are just brilliant, a collection of Dips and Nibbles, or a cool idea, the Halloumi Bites with Potato Skins and a really Moorish garlic mayo sauce.
Specialities
Specialising in traditional Cypriot cuisine and tantalising grills, but my absolute favourite here is the Fresh Fish Platters, with a variety of seafood, Salmon, King Prawns, Mussels, Sea Bass, Sea Bream, and the Cheesy Cod, with Salad and Potatoes, always does it for me 😉 … Click here to see their full Menu
Behind the Bar
In this fully stocked bar, they’ve probably got your favourite tipple and they mix a wicked cocktail or two. Their Frozen Cocktails are just a delight … My favourites are the Frozen Pina Colada, the Daqueries, and the Margaritas but the new Dirty Banana is just a taste bud explosion and a must-try!
Cava
Not a’lot of people know this, but, Frixos also holds a wine diploma from France, so expect to find an enviable collection of some of the world’s finest wines, oh and if you tell him “Tony said to ask him for a recommendation”, I’m sure you’ll be more than pleasantly surprised!
Pizza
This recently moved the dedicated Pizza Restaurant inside, with an authentic and traditional Italian stone pizza oven, creating delectable pizzas, my favourites, the Veggie Antipasto, first a layer of their secret tomato sauce, cheese, marinated vegetables, and olives topped with Arugula salad, and finished off with garlic brushed crust. Now Savvas cooks a wicked pizza and knows my favourite is The Aromatic Chicken, the tomato sauce complimented with cheese, herbed chicken and marinated vegetables … btw, The Garlic Bread Supreme is sooo mooorish.
Afternoon Delights
I often pop in here just for an aromatic cappuccino and one of their delicious desserts, try the homemade Pineapple Cheesecake or the Tiramisu with Antica Ice cream, just the best I’ve ever tasted!
Live Music
Blue Spice holds regular entertainment, with live music events, with an awesome violinist, excellent guitarist and a talented pianist and in fact, it’s been known for Frixos to invite 4 individual musicians to jam together, and it always works! … Oh, and local and international artists and big-name DJ’s even our very own Haji Mike and the gorgeous Karen Kendall of Kendall Events presents her world acclaimed tribute bands from the UK several times a year … I loved The Phil Collins Tribute this year …
Every Year
The crew make that extra special effort to decorate the place for their popular annual celebrations like Valentine’s, Carnival Week, Easter, Halloween, and Christmas which are always lots of fun … Check out their Videos and their Trip Advisor Reviews.
Cyprus Rocks Festival
As hosts of the BBQ Pool Party for the Classic Rock Festival, all I can say is you really must get tickets coz the entertainment is just excellent, to say the least. This year we should have seen, for the first time The Great Flood, Black Strays and Fuse, and on their 6th year the absolutely awesome, Jimmy Anderson’s Legends of A.O.R … plenty of blues and soul and maybe a little rock and roll, all day and into the night … oh, and btw their BBQ is just the best … Mmm!
Aloha Cafe
Another new addition to the lush green grassed area is the fabulous Aloha Bar serving things like freshly squeezed fruit juices, smoothies, milkshakes, icecreams, teas and coffees in a relaxed ambience with really cool comfy seating area with chill-out hammocks, oh and, just wait til you try their signature fruity Sangria, Mmmm!
Art Gallery
Blue Spice also doubles up as an art gallery, with the amazingly talented Carolina Alotus presenting her work, in a high ceiling well-lit gallery, decorated with some truly amazing pieces and there’s an evident touch of her art wherever you look, especially at parties and special events … absolutely wonderful!
