Romance in the air
I thought January was never gonna end, coz you just have to love February in Cyprus! Firstly coz it’s the start of spring, on the island of Aphrodite, our Goddess of Love and naturally there’s romance in the air, everywhere, especially on the 14th when we celebrate Valentine’s Day, which this year falls on a Saturday so you might as well make love all weekend! … and I can’t help laughing watching the postman struggle to get all my cards in the little letterbox. Oh, and btw, the following weekend it’s carnival season, so get ready for carnival processions all over Cyprus and of course Green Monday …
Book a Table
Valentine’s, of course, is also a great excuse to take your loved one away for the weekend or out for a romantic dinner and sexy cocktails at one of our many recommended restaurants and bars. It’s still winter, so a few have those lovely log-burning open fires and candle-lit tables and red hearts everywhere! … All you have to do is choose a city, then go Eating Out and select your favourite cuisine, click the telephone icon and book a table! … It’s as easy as 123 …
Start of Lent
Carnival season starts on the weekend of the 21st, with Green Monday falling on the 23rd, so expect the carnival parties to start on Friday 20th. But there’s so much to do if you look around. You know, Cyprus is versatility to the extreme, it’s one of the few places you can Ski, Snowboard, or go Husky Sledding up in the Troodos Mountains in the morning, and in less than an hour you can be swimming in the Med … do it the other way around if you fancy some Apres Ski up in the mountains. Oh, and the spring air is still really clear, so in between the last of the winter storms, you’ll still be able to Top Up the Tan!
Spring
We had quite a bit of rain in January, much as we still need lots more, but I think all those crazy hot sunny days made up for it, easily! Every year we say ‘it rained more, and it’s been colder than last year’, but I’m sure that this year it did! and it was! OMG! We had hailstones the other day, How cold??? But you’d better not blink, or you’ll miss spring, that’s normally the last two weeks of February, when the blossoms are out, floral aromas everywhere, and everything is sooooo green … quite apt for Green Monday … I just love February! … Oh, and there’s no better time to visit Cyherbia Botanical Park & Labyrinth the natural hedge maze is a good way to lose the kids so you can enjoy a coffee!
Shopaholics
Ladies, February’s mostly my favourite month, coz the February Sales are in full swing, much as they actually started the day after Boxing Day. So, all you Shop ’til You Drop freaks will be in heaven. So, get out and find yourselves some bargains, with up to 70% off at lots of shops, it’s a good time to buy that last winter warmer, still needed at night in February and March. Leading the way in Fashion are Y2K Boutique in Ayia Napa, London Clothing Company, in Napa, Protaras and Paralimni, Bruska in Larnaca, Nicosia and Paphos and The Melekkis Centre, in Paralimni.
Passion
Remember to say ‘I love You’ with flowers … So why not pop into one of our recommended Florists, Fashion Outlets, and Jewellers to pick up something a little special for your loved one …
Invigorating
Another reason I love this time of the year is that walking the dog along stormy coastlines is invigorating, to say the least, especially on the Protaras coast that provides us with an abundance of Natural Iodine in the air, good for us oldies!
Europe’s Finest
Cyprus has officially boasted some of the best beaches in Europe, ha! we’ve been saying that for over 33 years!, as one world-renowned Advisors kept forgetting us in their top ten, in fact, we have a few of the Top Beaches in Europe, a couple up there with the best in the world, because let’s face it; you really can’t beat the Mediterranean Sea! … and on that note we were also recently voted the best Swimming Waters in Europe!
Europe’s Hottest
We also boast one of, if not the best climates in the world, averaging around 20°C by mid-February so you’ll be able to get a Fab Tan and in fact, we’re one of the safest places in the world to visit, the safest under a two million population … and well, they’ve been partying here since the Gods invented party some 12,600 years ago, one of the main reasons I live here.
Adventure
One of my favourite finds over the years is CyHerbia Botanical Gardens in Avgorou, with loads happening through the spring. The Camel Park in Mazados and Paphos Zoo are still open, it must be hard for them to keep all those animals fed, so please go give them some support … oh and if you fancy Husky Sledding in the Troodos Mountains give Alison a call
Live
Many of our hospitality venues will be putting on special events this month with DJ’s or Live Music, including; O’Neill’s Irish Bar & Grill in Paphos and the world-famous Savino Rock Bar and Savino Live in Larnaca, whilst Blue Spice in Pernera and Koursaros Music Bar in Protaras give us a few live events and so too the awesome Sarah’s Jazz Club in the capital, Nicosia and Anodos Live Stage smashing it in Limassol, our capital on the coast!
A Few Ideas
There are some cool events planned in February at The Rialto Theatre in Limassol
… I’m really looking forward to catching a live band every weekend at Koursaros Music Bar in Protaras and there’s loads on at Savino Live in Larnaca … For a little bit of Greek style, wonderful Giannis Margaris & The Band on the 7th and just wait til you see What’s on over Carnival weekend from 21st … While up in Paphos, O’Neills Irish Bar & Grill Re-opens on Sunday 1st with regular live music!
Beach Time
With beach weather fast upon us, there’s normally a Beach Clean or two around the country … Stay tuned to our Facebook Page for info …
Time to Invest
I’m hearing one millionare is leaving the UK and Germany every 45 minutes, and Cyprus with its favoured tax laws and high quality of life is looking like it’s going to have a fantastic future, so I believe it’s a great time to invest in Cyprus … check out some of our current projects to increase visitors and tourism … maybe invest in a private Property to let, for a little extra income, for example, at the new Ayia Napa Marina and adjacent Sun City Spa Resort …
Pet Travel
Oh, and if you are moving to Cyprus and need to move your pet from anywhere to everywhere, talk to Petra of Petravel, who really offers a fabulous service. I had a fascinating interview with her recently …
It’s Almost Easter
The season should kick off early, with the international tour operators promising to help us enhance our year-round tourism, many visitors from Italy and France adding to our already well-established Northern European market and with Christian Easter falling on Sunday, 5th April, and a week later Orthodox Easter and 8 more Public Holidays between now and 1st of May, we’re probably going to have a busy start to the season.
The Network
The Website is looking cool, it now has over 2,000 Articles of information about Cyprus with more than 30,000 photos and videos, all one-word searchable! Our Facebook just surpassed 21,000 followers staying tuned with our daily updates, with links to our Website and YouTube Channel. Our live Facebook videos are growing more popular by the day. Our Instagram got hacked recently, I’m still trying to recover it … oh, and you can help us too, if you’ll please tell your friends about us …
Personal Touch
I hope you find what you want … If not, go back to the top and try a one-word search! … If you still can’t find it, phone me!
