Abacus Restaurant & Lounge Bar, Ayia Napa, Established 1985

Over 30 Years
Firstly, knowing that this eaterie is now in its fourth decade, they’ve got to be doing something right, then just from the moment you see this stylish, excellently laid out, restaurant come lounge bar, standing proud on the corner of Kriou Nerou, you’ll understand why they are up there amongst my top recommended Restaurants in Ayia Napa, probably even Cyprus.  Originally I would have called it a Steak House, now it’s far more international in its choice of cuisines, but still serves one of the best steaks in town!

Traditional Hospitality
Originally opened by Solomos’ father Simon 34 Years ago, this place has naturally become a favourite for many locals, with an ever-growing international repeat client guest list envied by many.  I asked Solomos for the reason behind their success, and he said “for us everything we do is unique, we give our best to assure each guest leaves here happy”, even if all you want is a coffee, afternoon drink, share an exotic flavour, or a little snack, while you watch the match on one of 7 big TV screens.

Extensive Menu
Adding favourites over the years, the menu is now extensive, to say the least, and truly international.  I’ve selected just a few of my favourites; just to tempt you a little 😉 … For starters, sometimes the Chilled Smoked Salmon, The Beef Soup on those wintery nights, absolutely delicious, but the Stuffed Mushrooms are to die for and the King Prawn Tempura a must with Sweet Chilli Sauce! and if you just fancy a salad, The Exotic is Diced Chicken with Iceberg Lettuce, Fresh Strawberries and Pineapple, served in the Pineapple Shell, brilliant!

Seafood
Fresh Sea Bass is always on the menu and their Char Grilled Octopus definitely a locals favourite, but I can’t resist the Seafood Paradise, a mix of King Prawns, Octopus, Calamari and Mussels … just delicious!

Famous Steaks
It’s so hard to choose the main course, so many, just irresistible … Let’s start with their famous Steaks, each cut specifically selected from various parts of the world, U.S.A, New Zealand, Scotland & Ireland, a collection of certified, Prime Steaks and Black Angus from Aberdeen to Tennessee and all the Way to New Zealand, you choose the cut, how you like it, flame grilled or covered in one of their tantalising sauces, and they’ll prepare it perfectly as always … the grain fed Picanha Aberdeen Angus so hard to beat!

Traditional
Well, when in Cyprus, you might as well try the excellent cuisine … Cypriots live for the table and at Abacus it’s a family business, and naturally, the 6 Cypriot Chefs recipes come from mum and Yia Yia, so get ready to try the tastiest Lamb Kleftico and a tantalizing Beef Stiffado, btw I prefer it if its yesterdays 😉

Variety
At Abacus they understand everyone’s taste is different, so you’ll find delicious Burgers made with 100% Prime Beef from New Zealand . Steak Sandwiches . Pizza . The Mexican Chicken Twister a taste bud explosion … Chicken with Cheddar . Fillet of Pork in Mushroom Sauce . Pastas . Omellettes and so much more …

Desserts
Now, either you’re going to save room for dessert or you’re going to have to go back just for coffee and dessert because they make one of the best Sunday Hot Fudge Cake I’ve ever tasted and The Lava Cake, OMG!!! … The Crepes and Waffles amazing, or maybe keep it healthy with a delicious Fruit Platter.

Lounge
Just 1000 metres from the sea, Abacus boast being nominated for The Stoli Awards in the ‘Lounge Bar’ Catagory, for the past 3 years, which is understandable, the right-hand side dedicated to those of you that just want to relax and enjoy a drink, maybe catch the live sports on one of 7 big screens … but I reckon it must be something to do with their chill-out, sounds smooth fresh ground coffee from Cup10, Brazil and their finger snacks.

Behind the Bar
The wine list is extensive, 60 wines, a few imported, but mostly Cypriot, and why not, we are making some of the finest wines in the world, competing with our claim for the finest potatoes, unquestionable! … do try the Fikardos Vinery and be ready for a pleasant surprise … and I don’t just mean the prices with a very good one under €30 a bottle … and any excuse for a party they even celebrate international Rum Day with regular parties and top DJ’s spinning chill-out house.

Cocktails
I often pop down for a cocktail, sitting out front, watching the world go by … It’s a massive Drinks Menu and Cocktail list, with over 30 Gins from around the world, my faves their signature cocktails; The Watermelon Gin and Tonic, very Moorish, so I just change the flavoured tonic lol … you really must try the ‘Pinky’, Gordons Pink Gin, Passoa, Lychee Puree, Fresh Lime Juice, and Pink Grapefruit Soda, ha try and only have one … Hmm!
