It Must be Summer
May seemed to go on forever, but June has arrived, and the Cyprus sun is already so hot that I was burning my feet on the sand today! You all know June is one of my favourite months mainly coz the island is buzzing with energy, the beaches are at their absolute best, summer events are filling the calendar, and football fans everywhere are preparing for what promises to be an unforgettable FIFA World Cup Finals. Kicking off on Thursday, 11th June at 10 pm with Mexico v South Africa, and I’m sure up in Paphos, where many South African Cypriots have made their home, it’s a perfect way to start the competition … Bafana! Bafana!!!
Festival of The Flood
The month starts with the finale of Kataklysmos, which will take you beyond its captivating beaches. Cyprus offers a rich cultural history, going back some 12,600 years. And June also presents an opportunity to immerse yourself in local traditions and festivities. One such celebration is ‘Kataklysmos’ aka Festival of the Flood, a commemoration of Noah’s Ark, which takes place around the time of the Orthodox Pentecost, this year falling on Monday 1st June, with water fights all part of the festivities. This vibrant festival also features boat races, traditional music and dance performances, and an array of local delicacies. It is a fantastic occasion to experience the island’s cultural heritage and revel in the warm hospitality of the Cypriot people.
Joyful Procession
The feast day commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, 50 days after Easter. In Genesis, we have Noah and in Greek myth, Deukalion and his wife, who are saved to give birth to a new and moral generation. Hence, one of the most popular customs and arguably the most fun is a joyful procession to the sea, where people sprinkle and often throw water over each other, symbolising the purification of the body as well as the soul … ‘Hmm, I’m taking a bucket with me this year!’
Beaches
Whether you’re a resident looking for weekend inspiration or a visitor planning your summer escape, June offers plenty of reasons to get out and about, to enjoy everything Cyprus has to offer. From beach days and outdoor concerts to sporting action, cultural festivals and family adventures, here’s my guide to what’s on in Cyprus this June …
The Weather
So, summer has officially arrived, and if you’ve been waiting for perfect beach weather, this is it. Across Cyprus, June typically brings long sunny days, and on that note, the summer solstice falls on Sunday 21st at 11.24 am … then there’s the blue skies, and we had so much rain this winter it’s almost definitely not gonna rain. Coastal temperatures usually range between 30°C and 35°C, in the shade, that’s 90° F to 100° F in English, while inland areas such as Nicosia will climb even higher. So if you’re gonna Get a Tan, be careful and please follow my tips.
Dipping Your Toes
The sea temperature becomes wonderfully inviting, averaging around 24°C to 28°C, making swimming, paddleboarding and water sports irresistible. You can tell it’s June coz all the Cypriots are finally swimming lol. One of the things I love most about June is that the intense humidity of high summer hasn’t fully arrived yet, making outdoor dining, sightseeing and evening walks particularly enjoyable. Personally, if I go to the beach and it’s sunny and not windy, I’m guaranteed to go in for a swim all year round.
Beach Life Takes Centre Stage
Let’s face it, no Cyprus summer is complete without spending time by the sea … Cyprus boasts a few of the top 25 Beaches in Europe, and in June, they come alive with locals and tourists seeking the sun, the sea and of course, a little sex on the beach. Settle down, I mean, the cocktail … here’s a few beach suggestions …
Ayia Napa
Nissi Beach
This iconic beach remains one of the island’s biggest attractions. Crystal-clear turquoise waters, soft white sand, and a lively atmosphere and a cool vibe make it a favourite for visitors from around the world. If you want it quieter, aim for the left-hand side.
Ayia Thekla & Maccronissos
Both to the west of Ayia Napa, Maccronissos is on two bays, with pure white sands, crystal clear waters and Ayia Thekla is much the same, with a cool little church, a fabulous backdrop for a photo shoot, but both are more a family thing than Nissi, although I have to say I’ve seen littlens loving the foam parties at Nissi Bay Beach Bar!
Larnaca
There’s Dhekalia Beach, a bit stony but cool, and of course Finigoudes along the city’s promenade, becoming increasingly popular but Mackenzie leads the way for the cosmopolitan, sophisticated crew …
Limassol
Lots of hotels along the 8km road from St. Raphael Beach Resort to the Old Harbour have made an effort to spruce up the beaches. The world-famous Guaba Beach Bar is leading the way with massive International and local DJs smashing it, but there’s some lovely surprises like Wanax Beach Bar at Poseidonion Beach Hotel
Governor’s Beach
For those seeking something different, the dramatic white limestone cliffs create one of the most photogenic coastal settings in Cyprus, often favoured by our naturists.
Paphos
Coral Bay
Perfect for families and casual swimmers, Coral Bay at the end of the main strip, offers golden sands and stunning sunsets that never disappoint.
Protaras
Fig Tree Bay
A personal favourite of mine and families, Fig Tree Bay combines golden white sands, calm waters, and fantastic facilities, including one of my favourite beach cafes. Early morning swims here are simply magical, with the little island providing wonderful snorkelling opportunities.
Protaras Bay
With many nicknames like Flamingo Bay, Sunrise Beach, and a few others, along probably the longest beach in Cyprus, stretching over 1km, it’s one of my favourites, especially in peak season for more than one reason!
Konnos Bay
If I were forced to choose a favourite bay in Cyprus, it would probably be Konnos … The sweeping, winding avenue of trees, down to an idylic bay with crystal clear waters, so clear you can stand chest deep at full moon and still see your toes clearly … Mike’s Watersports, been there for over 40 years, will take you on a few wild rides, and it’s a fabulous place to learn to waterski with the sea often like a mirror.
Things To Do
Explore Cape Greco
June is the perfect month to visit Cape Greco National Forest Park before the peak summer crowds arrive. Take a hike along the coastal trails, visit the famous Sea Caves, maybe join in the rock jumping, if you’re brave enough or just watch the sunset from one of the island’s most spectacular viewpoints on top of Cape Greco … Or just choose a City and click Things to Do
Traditional Villages
Escape the heat for a day and head into the Troodos Mountains to discover traditional villages such as Lofou, Kakopetria, Omodos and Platres, which offer charming narrow streets, local tavernas and cooler temperatures that provide a refreshing contrast to the coast.
Enjoy Open-Air Dining
One of the great pleasures of June is dining outdoors, from seaside seafood restaurants all along the coast, to rooftop venues in Larnaca and Nicosia, to traditional tavernas in Paralimni and Limassol. I love it coz the island comes alive after sunset … Just choose a city, go Eating Out, then select one of 16 cuisines …
Water Sports Season Begins
As I was saying, June marks the start of the peak water sports season, visitors and locals alike can enjoy Jet skiing, Parasailing, Scuba Diving, Wakeboarding, Paddleboarding, Boat excursions, and Fishing trips. Most major resorts now operate at full capacity, offering activities for every age group.
Events and Festivals
June traditionally marks the beginning of Cyprus’s packed summer events season. Expect to find Outdoor Concerts with International artists, local performers and tribute acts everywhere across the island.
Cultural Festivals
Many municipalities host local celebrations featuring traditional music, dance performances and Cypriot cuisine. Summer Cinema Nights at Open-air cinemas return across Cyprus, offering classic films and new releases under the stars.
Food and Wine Experiences
Throughout June, visitors can enjoy food festivals, wine tastings and village celebrations showcasing local produce and Cypriot hospitality.
World Cup 2026 Fever Arrives
One of the biggest talking points this June is undoubtedly the FIFA World Cup 2026. As football fans gather to watch the world’s greatest sporting spectacle, sports bars, restaurants, and hotels across Cyprus will be screening matches throughout the tournament. Whether you’re supporting England, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina or another football powerhouse, there will be no shortage of venues offering big-screen viewing experiences. Many bars in Limassol, Nicosia, Larnaca, Ayia Napa, Paphos and Protaras are expected to organise special match nights, themed menus and fan events throughout the competition. For football lovers, June 2026 promises to be one of the most exciting months in recent memory.
Sports and Outdoor Activities
Cyprus isn’t just about beaches, June provides ideal conditions for, Cycling, where The Troodos Mountains continue to attract cyclists from across Europe thanks to quieter roads and stunning scenery.

Of course, Cyprus boasts one of Europe’s finest year-round climates for a round of golf, particularly in June. Courses in Paphos and Limassol remain in excellent condition before the hottest weeks of summer arrive.
Hiking
Early morning hikes in the Akamas Peninsula and Troodos Mountains remain among the island’s best outdoor experiences.
Family Fun
Families visiting Cyprus in June are spoiled for choice. Popular attractions include: Water parks in Ayia Napa and Limassol and especially Paphos. A visit to Ocean Aquarium in Protaras is a must. I love Pafos Zoo, it’s just a fabulous day out … and for those on the south east coast, The Camel Park is just wonderful too. Oh, let’s not forget CyHerbia Botanical Park and Maze, a great idea to lose the kids for an hour while you enjoy a delicious smoothie.
On the Med
If you’re not in the sea or on the sand, then get on the med with a fabulous choice of Boat Trips and Pirate cruises from almost every harbour, marina or jetty …
Schools Nearly Out
With schools approaching summer holidays, many venues begin extending their opening hours and introducing seasonal activities.
My June Verdict
If someone asked me to choose the perfect month to experience Cyprus, June would be near the top of the list. The weather is fantastic, the sea is warm, the beaches are stunning, and the island hasn’t yet reached the busiest period of the summer season. Add a packed calendar of events, outdoor dining, family attractions, sports activities and the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026, any excuse to take a holiday, and it’s easy to see why June is gonna be such a special time to be here, this year!
