April 2025

1st April 2025

It's over 1,800 Articles with over 30,000 Photos and Video links ... all one word searchable, Established 1993

Summers Here!
It’s April, and it’s gotta be one of my favourite months, partly because the clocks went forward on March 31st, which means we’re getting longer days, so summer is well and truly here! … and of course, partly because the fields are still really green, blossom is abundant everywhere, the aromas are delectable, but with the predictions that temperatures will surpass 30°C by mid-April, that’s 90°F in English, there’s only one thing to do … I’m off to the beach for a swim and of course to Top up the Tan! … Having said that, we haven’t had much rain yet this winter and tbh we really need it!

In the Med
While we’re talking about beaches, Ayia Napa and Protaras on the east coast, boast 2 of the Best Beaches in Europe and tbh, we’re blessed with the nicest sea I’ve ever had the pleasure to swim in, in the world … Add stuff like: Licensing hours ‘til 2.30 am, and then of course, our late bars and night clubs that will take you through to sunrise, not too good for the tan unless you go straight to the beach after a good night out.

Happy Bunnies
With Greek Orthodox Easter landing on Sunday 20h April this year, as usual, the celebrations started 49 days before, back on 3rd March with Green Monday.  It’s the most significant event on the religious calendar in Cyprus, as apart from marking the beginning of spring, the main thing is, it marks the celebration of Orthodox Easter in Cyprus

Pascha
In Greek, it’s called Pascha and is celebrated by the majority of Cypriots who belong to the Greek Orthodox Church.  The holiday falls on a different date each year, usually between late March and late April, depending on the lunar calendar, but this year Easter Sunday falls on 20th April.

Busy, Busy
Coincidentally, this year Christian Easter also falls on Sunday, 20th April, so we’re expecting it to be very busy, two weeks before and two weeks after Easter.  I’m estimating from 8th April, it’ll be busy on all the coastal resorts, through to early May, as many Cypriots travel from far and wide to be here for Easter, and make the most of it as it’s truly is a fabulous time to take in our culture and heritage!

Take Two
Another event I’d like to get to is the 23rd Cyprus Film Days International Festival, from 4th ’til 18th April 2024, at The Rialto Theatre in Limassol and Zena Palace, Nicosia, curated by Artistic Directors Argyro Nicolaou and Marios Lizides.  The event showcases films from all over the world and brings together filmmakers, actors, and film enthusiasts from Cyprus and beyond.  The festival is a great opportunity to experience the cultural diversity of the island and to celebrate the art of filmmaking … Click here for the full Program.

Live on Stage
The live music scene is quickly picking up with Kendall Events bringing back the awesome Johnny Dee, the UK’s No.1 Tribute to Neil Diamond, from the 8th to the 15th April.  This year’s tour is 6 nights, at 6 venues all over Cyprus … I just gotta say Karen is just amazing! and btw, I’m really looking forward to catching Fleetwood Bac again this May … Meanwhile Cyprus’ No:1 music venue Savino Live in Larnaca launches the month on Saturday 5th April with the amazing vocals of Yiannis Magaris and The Band live on stage … and on the East Coast there’s live rock bands every weekend at Koursaros Music Bar in Protaras, always the place to be for a bit of live, mostly Greek Rock, and a mature vibe!

Ready or Not
As I drive around it’s evident that businesses are getting ready to open in time for the influx of Easter visitors from all over the world, and in fact, our nationals who’ll normally leave their villages and of course the Capital to come down to the coast, to light their barbies and maybe dip their toes into the sea, haha, remember most of the locals won’t go in ’til June … oh and, quite a few of our recommended eateries are launching new menus this year!  Many are still providing a takeaway and delivery service for those ‘I don’t wanna cook every day’ moments.

Gone Goth
I’d just like to wish Drew, Emma and Tood good luck at the opening of Psy-Witch, the first Goth style Psy Genre Cocktail Bar that’s opening mid-April at the top of Bar Street in Napa … More on this place coming soon …

On the Med
I’ll be expecting a few more boat cruises to launch this month, I’ve been chatting to them and it looks like we’ll see Wave Dancer busy up in Paphos and The Black Pearl, Ocean Queen, Yellow Submarine, Nemo Submarine, and Fantasy Boat Party in Napa and Medusa Cruises, St. Georgios Boat Cruise, Aphrodite Cruises I, and Dolphin Semi Submarine on the jetty over in Protaras.

Out & About
It’s a great time to go touring to discover the real Cyprus, a couple of recommended tours are with Jimmy’s Jeep Adventures on the west coast, Quad Bike Safari in Larnaca, and Trackers Excursions over on the east coast, all coming into their element at this time of the year.  On that note, do go and check out the new babies at The Camel Park at Mazatos or Paphos Zoo, and make sure you catch the animals at dinner time for some jaw-dropping photos, it’s awesome!

Award Winning
We’re now in our 13th year as an online guide to Cyprus based on our original magazine launched in 1999, and the Network is growing daily.  We’ve always said we’re the best guide to Cyprus and for the second year running, we’ve received yet another award, this time for ‘Best Online Leisure & Hospitality Guide 2025’, Cyprus from The Lux Life Restaurants & Bars Awards in London … to add to the previous two seasons from The Cyprus Prestige Arawds in Birmingham as the Best Tourist Platform in Southern Europe, ha!  They don’t realise that many of our followers are locals and ex-pats based in Cyprus.

Website
Meanwhile, our responsive Website fits nicely onto your phone, tablet or PC and is one-word searchable.  It’s over 1,800 pages and 30,000 photos and videos and you might notice, I’m loving Cyprus, and my job, and btw, I’ve been here doing much the same thing for over 32 years, and I promise I’m gonna make sure this remains the best guide to Cyprus!

Let’s get Social
Check out our Facebook page for day-to-day events, interesting posts, shares of things i find that look cool and my ever-popular Live Facebook Videos.  You can also follow us on, Instagram, X, and Pinterest to keep up to date with What’s On Cyprus! History
Remember this rock has a history dating back some 12,600 years and of course it’s the Island of our Goddess Aphrodite, where sun, sea, sex, and selfies are all part of the norm, well, what else would you expect?   You don’t think that all those Greek Gods came here for nothing, do you?

Finally
So, to finish off as usual, if I can give you one tip, make sure you do something you’ve never done before! … At least once! …
