August 2020
August of course is normally peak season, so expect it to get a bit busier on the coast, partly because pretty much the whole of Cyprus’ commerce and industry shuts down for about 3 weeks in August, it’s not worth trying to work coz if it gets to over 40°C in the workplace, the unions pull out the staff, and it’s definitely gonna be over 40°C, so they might as well close down for three weeks, but of course, it's a nightmare coz you can’t get anything done lol … no probs, as we say in Cyprus 'Avrion' it’s the Cypriots favourite word, but I'm sure you'll witness an occasional pull your hair out moment lol ...
July 2020
… so, its peak season, and it’s hot, hot, hot, with the temperature well over 40°C by mid-July, and even the cold water isn’t cold enough! Sunrise is about 5.30 am and it’s not getting dark ’til almost 8.30 pm, and as we move swoftly out of lockdown there’s beach bars throwing beach parties, coz the clubs aren’t open yet. I’m missing the foam parties and pool parties but I’ve heard the night clubs are targeting to open by 16th with some massive names coming to spin their mix …
Casa Mespilea Bistro & Guest House, Old Town, Paphos
... we have created a menu, traditional but not, it’s totally unique, partly influenced by her yiayia, a fusion of Greek, Cypriot and Spanish cuisine, but she assured me none of the dishes you’ll find anywhere else, because they are the creation of their imagination, using always fresh produce, everything is cooked to order, nothing is prepared and always around her flavours and essences of Cyprus, that she uses to compliment every dish … oh, and if she had her way, she would change the menu every day” … So do look out for their daily specials and make sure you leave room for dessert!
June 2020
The current Covid Crises has hit us all hard, throwing us into a sci-fi film set back in March, we’re now on 'Take 82', and tbh, I think the Cyprus Government got it right … They reacted very quickly, rumour has it from a little inside tip from one of our Chinese investors … They attacked the pandemic with the only possible solution, ‘To Slow it Down’ … then using experts in Epidemiology they mathematically calculated when things would get back to normal’ish … and we’ve lifted restrictions in travel, no more SMS messages to go out, no more curfew, we’re allowed to swim in the sea and top up the tan after, and the restaurants and bars are opening and it seems people are getting together with friends, so please pop out and give these guys some support, they need it most now!!!
May 2020
It’s been the craziest start to the season ever, and I’ve seen so much happen over the past 28 years, with one crises after another, somehow the Cypriots just seem to bounce straight back out of them ... stay tuned for the latest here ...
April 2020
One thing we can’t change is, it's Christian Easter on Sunday 12th and then just one week later it’s Greek Orthodox Easter on Sunday 19th, which also marks the end of 49 days of Lent, remember Green Monday the last time we could congregate, ffs, and of course Easter is the day we would all normally go crazy, lighting bonfires and BBQ’s, the aromas of barbecued Lamb just mouth-watering …

Garden Kamara House, Kato Drys, Larnaca
As I arrived, my first impressions were it looked quite 'normal', a fairly plain frontage, edged in gorgeous natural stone walls, wonderful wooden shutters, but through the big antique wooden front doors and into the lounge and you're in another world ... making it obvious why its a favourite for wedding planners ...
March 2020
... With all these festivals and carnivals happening, and Easter coming in April, there’s an obvious sign that places will be opening early this season to welcome the ever increasing early season visitors promised by many tour operators, of course adding to the locals who are still in ‘off season’ party mode, gotta feeling this is gonna be a great month !!!
